LSA technology, implemented in the MEGMEET Dex PM3000 Compact, represents a breakthrough in short-arc MIG/MAG welding. Based on advanced software algorithms and precise digital control, LSA optimizes the process of metal droplet detachment from the end of the electrode wire. As the droplet passes, the welding current is controlled so that the transfer takes place “softly,” without the violent explosion of the material bridge.

This results in a drastic reduction in the amount of spatter – even by more than 50% compared to traditional DC welders. For the professional, this means not only a cleaner workplace, but above all a significant reduction in labor-intensive secondary operations, such as grinding or cleaning of welds and adjacent parts. In addition, LSA contributes to the stabilization of the weld pool, which facilitates its control and leads to a smooth, aesthetic weld face. The reduced heat input of the process is an added advantage, especially in the welding of thin sheets, where minimizing thermal distortion is a priority.

The QPT in the MEGMEET Dex PM3000 Compact welder is an innovative approach to pulse welding, referred to as “short-arc pulse.” Using an ultra-efficient inverter operating at up to 180 kHz, the control system is able to sample and adjust arc parameters extremely quickly. This makes it possible to find the critical balance point between short-arc and spray transfer, resulting in a significant reduction in droplet transition time and increased transfer frequency.

In practice, QPT technology enables welding at speeds 50% to 100% higher than with standard pulse MIG/MAG welding. At the same time, low heat input is maintained, minimizing the risk of distortion and overheating of the material, making QPT ideal for welding thin sheets. What’s more, the process is less sensitive to changes in shielding gas composition, making it possible, for example, to efficiently weld stainless steel with solid wire in common argon/CO₂ mixtures. For the welder, this means higher productivity, excellent weld quality and expanded application possibilities.

The MEGMEET Dex PM3000 Compact is equipped with an advanced synergistic control system that significantly simplifies the selection of optimal welding parameters. After selecting the type of material, wire diameter and shielding gas type, the device automatically adjusts the arc voltage to the set wire feed speed (or welding current). However, the user is fully capable of precisely adjusting these parameters to perfectly match the arc characteristics to the specific requirements of the application.

The device has an extensive built-in database of expert programs, including specialized synergy curves for welding carbon steels, stainless steels and aluminum alloys. Particularly noteworthy are the programs dedicated to aluminum, where advanced pulse and double-pulse control, with peak-to-base current contrast of up to 90%, enables the creation of welds with ideal geometry and the characteristic aesthetic appearance of a “fish scale.” The ability to store up to 50 individual settings in JOB channels further streamlines work on repetitive tasks, guaranteeing the highest quality and repeatable results.

The Dex PM3000 Compact offers highly specialized Pulse MIG and Double Pulse MIG welding functions dedicated to joining aluminum alloys. Thanks to precise digital control of pulse parameters – such as peak current, base current, pulse duration, pulse frequency – it is possible to fully control the amount of heat input and weld pool characteristics.

Pulse welding of aluminum minimizes the risk of burn-through and distortion, especially with thin parts, and also provides better cathodic cleaning, which is crucial with oxide-coated materials. The dual-pulse function goes a step further by modulating the primary pulse with an additional, slower pulse. The result is a TIG-like weld with a distinct “fish scale” appearance, while maintaining the high performance of the MIG/MAG method. The ability to adjust the peak-to-base current contrast to up to 90% gives the welder a tool to precisely shape the weld and achieve excellent aesthetic and metallurgical results.
