BÖHLER FOX CEL 85 is a cellulosic coated electrode of the E8010-P1 type with a nickel bearing deposit, meant for vertical-down welding of higher strength large diameter pipelines. The manufacturer directs it to the hot pass, filling and capping. It is one of the more widely used cellulosic electrodes in cross country pipeline work in the field.
The base material covers the steels L415NB to L485NB and L415MB to L485MB. The manufacturer states that joint quality is maintained down to -40 degrees C, and the electrode is qualified for sour gas after the HIC test to NACE TM-02-84, with SSC test values available. The vertical-down technique is at the same time considerably cheaper than welding uphill.

When working in frost, keep the electrodes in a warm container, so that they do not pick up moisture on the way from cold to warm. Hold the electrode angle constant all the way round the pipe and speed up slightly as you pass through the flat position. Set DC with the positive pole on the holder. Before the cap, clean the groove with a wire brush, otherwise you will get lack of fusion at the toes.
