BÖHLER FOX CEL 90 is an electrode with a cellulosic coating of the E9010-G / E9010-P1 type, meant for vertical-down welding of large diameter pipelines made of higher strength steel. The manufacturer recommends it for the hot pass and for filler and cover layers, on pipe made of L450MB and L485MB steel.
The coating and the core wire were matched for metallurgical cleanliness of the weld, which is why the deposit has even mechanical properties along the whole bead. The pool stays clearly visible during work, the electrode is easy to manipulate and the safety margin against porosity and slag inclusions is wide. The material was qualified for sour gas service by the HIC test to NACE TM-02-84.

Steel of this strength needs the heat watched, so keep to the preheat and interpass temperatures in the WPS: too little heat means cracks, too much costs the joint its properties. Guide the electrode evenly, with no stops at one point. Strike inside the groove, never on the pipe surface. Throw the stub away once about 50 mm of it is left, because a short electrode overheats and the coating starts to come off.
