Migatronic TIG Commander MKIII 400 AC/DC with the KT-4 module is an industrial TIG AC/DC and MMA power source with automatic cold wire feeding. At a 35% duty cycle the source gives 400 A and 26.0 V, in continuous work at 100% it gives 300 A and 22.0 V. The open circuit voltage is 85 V, the feeder runs the wire at a speed from 0 to 4 m/min.
What this machine is for
This is a set for long, repeatable welds on aluminium and stainless steel. Instead of feeding the rod by hand, you guide the torch and the cold wire module adds the filler at a steady pace. The face comes out even, the pace does not change after an hour of work, and the hand of the operator does not tire from adding the rod. The manufacturer aimed this system at plants making tanks and pipelines, at welding shops working light alloys, at mechanised stations and at heavy industry.
The power source works with alternating current on aluminium, where the cleaning half wave tears off the oxide layer, and with direct current up to 400 A on carbon steel, stainless steel and titanium. You strike the arc without touching in HF mode or by rubbing in LIFTIG mode, when sensitive electronics work nearby. The MKIII panel controls the AC current balance and its frequency, so on aluminium you balance the cleaning against the fusion and narrow the arc when you need a smaller heat affected zone.
The third group of tasks is the covered electrode. The machine works in MMA up to 400 A at a 35% duty cycle, it has Arc Power to hold the arc on a short circuit, Hot Start which makes the strike easier and Anti-freeze, which cuts the current when the electrode sticks. That comes in useful on an assembly site, where after the TIG welds something has to be added with an electrode.
Features and equipment
- Migatronic KT-4 cold wire module: a separate unit supplied with a voltage from 220 to 240 V, it feeds the filler straight into the arc zone and steadies the volume of the fusion over long stretches.
- Feed speed from 0 to 4 m/min and spools with a weight from 5 kg to 15 kg: you match the pace of adding filler to the speed of guiding the torch.
- Wires from 0.8 mm to 1.6 mm in diameter handled: from a thin wall to thicker joints.
- Wire start delay from 0 to 3 s: the arc first forms the pool, and only then the filler comes in, so the cold wire does not stick at the start of the weld.
- Wire retraction after the arc goes out, up to 1.5 s: it protects soft aluminium wire against melting or sticking to the tungsten electrode in the freezing crater.
- MKIII panel with AC Balance and AC Frequency control: you balance the cleaning against the fusion and concentrate the arc, which makes it easier to run welds in forced positions.
- HF and LIFTIG ignition: a start without touching or by rubbing.
- MMA mode up to 400 A at a 35% duty cycle with Arc Power, Hot Start and Anti-freeze.
- 19 pin connector: control from a pedal, a remote, an external system or from a simple mechanised or robotised installation.

What to watch out for
At the station you need two connections: you supply the power source from a 3 x 400 V mains, and the KT-4 feeder from a socket from 220 to 240 V. A 35% duty cycle at 400 A gives three and a half minutes of welding in a ten minute window, work without a limit starts at 300 A. The open circuit voltage is 85 V.
The shop catalogue data give liquid cooling, so confirm the torch, the cooler and the cables before you buy, because the data sheet does not list the accessories. The cold wire feeder needs the liner and the rolls matched to the filler diameter, and with soft aluminium wire you watch the bending radius of the feed path. You set the start delay and the wire retraction separately for each material, otherwise the filler sticks at the start or to the electrode at the end of a pass.
How we sell used machines
This unit was checked in our service workshop in Krotoszyn with measurements to PN-EN 60974-4 and a load test. The price includes the first year of the basic service package: an inspection with cleaning of the machine and a validation measurement. Further years can be added. We ship across the European Union, collection in person by appointment.
