Migatronic MIG 385 MK III is an industrial MIG/MAG welder in a classic transformer design, with an external wire feeder on an interconnection cable of 5 m. The working range reaches 385 A, at a 60% duty cycle the source gives 300 A, and at a continuous 100% load it gives 240 A. Supply is 3 x 400 V, and the housing has protection class IP21.
What this machine is for
This is a source for a metalwork shop, a production plant and a company working thicker material. You set the current in a range from about 40 A to 385 A, and the documentation gives three load points: 335 A at a 35% duty cycle and 30.8 V, 300 A at 60% and 29.0 V and 240 A in continuous 100% work at 26.0 V. Those figures set the real pace: for thick fillet welds run without breaks you plan the work around 240 A, and you take the higher values for shorter runs.
The machine was built for mild steel, solid wire and flux cored wire of 0.8 mm, 1.0 mm and 1.2 mm diameter. The transformer design has a practical advantage here: there are no processors, no synergy and no pulse, so metal dust and damp in the hall harm it less, and a repair is simpler and cheaper than in digital platforms. The arc behaves predictably also on roughly prepared edges, which on repairs of construction and farm machines matters more than the number of modes in a menu.
An external feeder on an interconnection cable of 5 m makes this set a machine for large structures. You set the heavy source once, and along a frame, a gate or a railing you move only the feeder with the torch of 5 m. On top of that comes an earth cable of 6 m, so you clamp far from the source. The control comes down to setting the wire speed and picking the feed mode on the feeder panel, and choosing parameters for typical metalwork jobs takes a moment.
Features and equipment
- Transformer power source of massive build: it takes continuous load and swings in the workshop mains, without electronics that are hard to diagnose in the hall.
- External wire feeder as a separate module: you take it to the welding spot, and on its panel you have the feed speed knob and the choice of working mode.
- Wire feed speed adjustment from the feeder panel: you tune the amount of filler to the chosen voltage, so the arc is calmer and the penetration matches the material thickness.
- Choice of feed mode, continuous or interval: the interval mode lays even tack welds without holding the trigger the whole time.
- EURO connector in the feeder: you swap the torch for any one that meets this standard, without modifying the machine.
- Interconnection cable of 5 m between the source and the feeder: you work away from the heavy unit, without moving it.
- Binzel MB25 torch of 5 m, gas cooled: a standard with cheap and available wear parts, nozzles and contact tips.
- Earth cable rated 400 A and 6 m long and a supply cable of 4 m: the cross section is matched to the machine current, so voltage drops along the route are small.
- Open circuit voltage from 17 V to 43 V: the arc strikes surely across the whole setting band, also on tarnished material.
- Work with solid and flux cored wires of 0.8 mm, 1.0 mm and 1.2 mm: one feeder covers the typical range of filler for structural steel.

What to watch out for
The Binzel MB25 torch is gas cooled and meant for light and medium work. If you plan continuous work at a current above 300 A, choose a torch with a higher rating, because at such a load the MB25 heats up faster than it manages to cool down. Wear parts for this torch, that is nozzles and contact tips, you buy off the shelf and cheaply. Protection class IP21 allows work under a roof, a building site and rain are out.
The transformer source is heavy and stationary, so for unloading you need a trolley or two people, while at the station the feeder on an interconnection cable of 5 m takes the load off you. The product record puts the unit in the band up to 400 A, the model documentation gives 385 A, so confirm the configuration before you buy. Aluminium is technically possible after fitting U type rolls, a PTFE liner and the right gas, but a torch of 5 m does not carry soft wire comfortably, and the machine characteristic was tuned for mild steel.
How we sell used machines
This unit was checked in our service workshop in Krotoszyn with measurements to PN-EN 60974-4 and a load test. The price includes the first year of the basic service package: an inspection with cleaning of the machine and a validation measurement. Further years can be added. We ship across the European Union, collection in person by appointment.
