Thermanit 20/25 Cu is a high alloyed austenitic stainless submerged arc (SAW) wire. It goes into tanks, process pipelines and equipment for the chemical and food industries.
The wire works as a set with a matched flux, which decides the mechanical properties of the weld. Its deposit resists intergranular corrosion and has an austenitic structure, and the wire is used on mechanised stations for butt and circumferential welds.
- Classification EN ISO: 14343-A S 20 25 5 Cu L
- AWS classification: A5.9 / SFA-5.9 ER385
- Shielding: flux matched to the wire, no shielding gas
Keep the heat input down and do not hold the joint hot longer than you need to, austenite expands strongly and pulls the structure out of shape. Keep an even flux layer over the arc, too thin a layer exposes the arc and too thick a one spoils the bead shape. Watch the wire stick-out and the position of the head against the weld centre line, under a flux you cannot see the pool and a mistake shows only after the slag is chipped off.
