What Thermanit MTS 4 Si TIG rod is used for

Thermanit MTS 4 Si is a low-alloy, creep resistant TIG rod. It is used in boiler making, on pressure vessels and petrochemical installations.

The rod suits grades such as 1.4922, 1.4935, 1.4923, 1.4926, 1.4913 and 1.4931. Its deposit resists creep at elevated temperature, and you feed the filler into the pool by hand while the arc burns between the tungsten electrode and the weld.

  • Classification EN ISO: 21952-A W CrMoWV 12 Si
  • AWS classification: A5.28 / SFA-5.28 ER90S-G
  • Shielding gas: I1
  • Diameters: 1.2 / 2.0 / 2.4 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (02624), CE

Do not interrupt welding and do not let the joint drop below the interpass temperature before the fill is finished. Grind the tungsten tip along its axis and hold a short arc, otherwise the pool spreads. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Match the diameter to the material thickness and the welding position, thinner rods are easier to control out of position.
