Union AlMg 6 Zr is a TIG welding rod for aluminium and its alloys. It goes into aluminium structures, tanks, vehicle parts and shipbuilding work.
The rod joins grades such as EN AW-5019, AlMg5, EN AW-5754, AlMg3, EN AW-5454, AlMg3Mn and AlMg2, along with related materials. You feed it into the pool by hand while the arc burns between the tungsten electrode and the weld.
- Classification EN ISO: 18273 S Al Z (AlMg6Zr)
- Shielding gas: I1, I3
Remove the oxide layer with a stainless steel brush right before welding, aluminium oxide melts far higher than the metal itself. Set the gas post-flow long enough for the pool and the electrode to cool under the shield. Grind the tungsten tip along its axis and hold a short arc, otherwise the pool spreads. The gas choice shapes the bead face and the amount of spatter, so stay with the mixture given in the classification.
