Union I 3,5 Ni is a TIG rod for welding low-temperature nickel steels. It is used on liquefied gas tanks, cryogenic installations and refrigeration equipment.
You feed the filler into the pool by hand while the arc burns between the tungsten electrode and the weld. The rod suits root runs, thin walls and welds that need a smooth face.
- Classification EN ISO: 636-A W 46 10 W0
- AWS classification: A5.28 / SFA-5.28 ER80S-G [ER80S-Ni3(mod.)]
- Shielding gas: I1
- Diameters: 2.4 / 3.5 mm
Run narrow beads without wide weaving, so the weld keeps its fine grained structure. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop. Keep the heat input and the interpass temperature down, low temperature toughness drops as soon as the joint overheats.
