Plasma cutter for hand cutting or CNC: what to check before buying

Hypertherm MAXPRO 200

Start choosing a plasma cutter with the job it needs to do. Hand cutting in a workshop and cutting on a CNC table require different equipment checks. A model name and maximum amperage alone do not confirm that an offer will work with your installation.

Hand cutting or a CNC table?

For hand cutting, compare the torch, lead length and handling. For CNC, prepare the specifications of your table, controller and torch height control. Ask for confirmation of the interface, signals and torch compatibility for the exact set. A “CNC” label alone does not replace that check. Browse new plasma cutters and used plasma cutters.

Recommended cut, severance and piercing capacity

In the manufacturer's documentation, distinguish the thickness intended for regular cutting, the limit for severing material and the mechanized piercing capacity. These are different ratings. Compare cut charts for the same material, process and required quality rather than choosing the largest thickness in a headline.

Four checks before comparing prices

  • Power supply: state your available voltage and installation details; check the exact version's requirements in its manual.
  • Gas: establish the gas type, required flow and gas preparation quality. Do not assume that any compressor is sufficient.
  • Torch and leads: confirm the model, length, operating mode and what the offer actually includes.
  • Running costs: ask about the correct consumables and service support for your chosen process.

Hypertherm MAXPRO200: an industrial system example

Hypertherm describes MAXPRO200 for handheld and automated cutting, depending on configuration. Its published ratings include a maximum 200 A and 100% duty cycle at 36.7 kW and 40°C. Those are system specifications, not confirmation of every offer's equipment. Check the Hypertherm MAXPRO 200 offer at Spawlab, then confirm the torch and components required for your workstation before ordering.

For used equipment, check the individual unit

Ask for the condition of the power source and torch, an equipment list and any missing items. Agree on inspection options and service terms. Do not automatically apply the specifications of a new complete set to an incomplete used unit.

EU delivery and an equipment enquiry

Prepare six details: material, typical thickness, hand cutting or CNC, expected workload, available power and gas, and delivery country with postcode. Transport costs depend on the basket and shipment parameters; distinguish preparation time from transit time. See delivery information for Germany, the Netherlands, Czechia, Finland and Denmark. Send the details to Spawlab to agree the set and delivery.
