What FOXcore 309L-MC metal-cored wire is used for

FOXcore 309L-MC is a high alloyed austenitic stainless metal-cored wire of the EC 309L type for special applications, made for dissimilar joints between high alloyed Cr and corrosion resistant austenitic CrNi(Mo) steels and mild or low-alloy steels.

The wire gives a high deposition rate and a wide, flat penetration profile with a stable spray arc, which shows on long welds and heavier walls. Its deposit has an austenitic structure, and typical work covers tanks, process installations and equipment in contact with water and steam.

  • Classification EN ISO: 17633-A T 23 12 L M M12 2
  • AWS classification: A5.22 / SFA-5.22 EC309L
  • Shielding gas: M21, C1
  • Diameters: 1.2 mm
  • Approvals: CWB, CE

After welding remove the heat tint by pickling or brushing, the oxide layer alone lowers the corrosion resistance of the joint. Check the feed roll pressure, a metal-cored wire is easier to crush than a solid one. Set the parameters for spray arc, in the short arc range a metal-cored wire loses its deposition advantage.

Typical weld metal values from the voestalpine Böhler Welding data sheet, issue 01/2021. The minimum or the range guaranteed by the maker is given in brackets. The figures depend on the heat treatment condition and the shielding gas stated in the row and do not replace testing the joint to your own WPS.
