Kaeser Aircenter SK24 is a three in one compressed air station: a screw compressor with 15 kW of power, a refrigeration dryer and a 350 l receiver in one housing. The output is 2.2 m3 per minute, that is 2200 l/min. The maximum pressure is 11.4 bar, in this unit set to 10 bar.
What this machine is for
This is a station for a workshop and a plant that feeds several pneumatic tools at once and wants dry air without building the installation from separate machines. In one housing sit the compressor, the dryer and the receiver, so instead of three machines you set up one, and instead of piping between them you have ready connections. For a welding shop that means feeding air carbon arc gouging, plasma cutters, grinders and blow guns without extending the compressor room.
An output of 2.2 m3 per minute, that is 2200 l/min, covers work at several stations at once. The 350 l receiver acts as a buffer: the motor cuts in less often, and the pressure holds steady also when the draw jumps, for example when a plasma cutter runs. The maximum pressure is 11.4 bar, and the setting of 10 bar leaves a reserve for tools that need a steady supply.
A screw compressor differs from a piston one in that it runs continuously, more quietly and with smaller pressure pulses. It suits work through the whole shift, because it needs no long breaks to cool, and the oil circulates in a closed loop together with the cooling system. Inside works a Sigma Profile screw block with an asymmetric rotor profile, which limits flow losses and holds the output without pressure jumps at the outlet.
When choosing a compressor what counts is not the motor power but the output in cubic metres per minute and the working pressure of the tools. A blow gun takes little, but a pneumatic grinder or a plasma cutter draw air continuously and it is they that set the demand. The receiver smooths the peaks in draw, and the dryer decides whether the air suits painting and pneumatic control.
Features and equipment
- Screw compressor with a motor power of 15 kW, that is 20 HP, with a Sigma Profile block.
- Built in refrigeration dryer, it cools the air to a dew point of about 3°C and takes out the moisture before it reaches the installation.
- A receiver of 350 l capacity as a compressed air buffer, fewer motor starts and steadier pressure.
- A three in one build in one housing, a shorter installation and less room taken in the compressor room.
- Maximum pressure 11.4 bar with the option of running at a lower setting, in this unit set to 10 bar.

What to watch out for
Moisture in a compressed air installation corrodes the pipes, ruins pneumatic tools and pushes water onto parts when painting. The built in dryer cools the air to a dew point of about 3°C and takes the moisture out before it moves on. When you connect it, count the pressure drops in your existing installation, because the best station will not make up for a pipe that is too thin or for clogged filters at the end of the line.
This is stationary equipment, so plan the place with service access from every side, ventilation of the room and a condensate drain. A screw compressor gives off heat, so the compressor room has to have an air change, otherwise the machine runs at a raised temperature. Before the start you check the oil level, the state of the air filters and the separator and the tightness of the connections, as with every screw compressor.
A pressure receiver is subject to technical inspection, so when the place of use changes settle the formalities and the receiver documentation. During our check the unit ran quietly and built up pressure quickly.
