Paton ECO-250 230V MMA welder, key data
The MMA welder PATON ECO-250 230V is intended for manual arc welding in the MMA method, using direct current. The ECO series is addressed to home users who need a practical unit with a rated current of 250A. That is enough to work with every electrode from ø1.6mm to ø4mm, including the hard to melt ones. The duty cycle is not lower than 40%, which covers most tasks on a semi-industrial scale and also serves well in the household sector.
Thanks to their solid, compact construction, ECO series welders do well out in the field. The small size makes the unit easy to move, and the professional carrying case included in the set makes it much easier to move the machine around.
Main advantages of the Paton ECO-250 230V MMA welder
- European manufacture of the welders
- Stepless welding current adjustment
- Able to work on long extension leads and with a generator
- All electronic components are impregnated with two layers of high quality lacquer, which keeps the product reliable over its whole service life
- Improved stability of the electric arc
- Hot-Start (hot ignition), Arc-Force (force of the electric arc) and Anti-Force (anti-stick) functions
- The units carry protection against voltage surges and a stabilisation circuit, which lets them work correctly across a voltage range from 170V to 260V
- Half the electrical power demand compared with traditional sources
5 year manufacturer warranty for consumers and for companies
The build quality is backed by a 5 year DOOR-to-DOOR manufacturer warranty. Models of the ECO series have a compact design that brings together a set of solutions raising the reliability of the units. The inverter block works at frequencies in the kHz range, which affects the size of the transformer in the power block and so cuts the mass and the dimensions of the machine itself.

The Hot-Start function (hot ignition) gives the best quality at the start of the weld and a first class ignition: at the moment the electric arc strikes, for a short instant the working welding current rises from the set working level to the optimal level. In some cases (when working with a weak mains supply or with a generator) this level can be set by hand, if the matching switch is present (as in the “Professional” series). Lowering “Hot-Start” in order to cut the power drawn from a weak supply, or raising it on a strong supply, makes ignition much easier.
The Arc-Force function (force of the electric arc) is used to improve the stability of burning in a short arc and to prevent the electrode from sticking. When a drop of metal separates from the electrode, the current is raised automatically to a certain level, if the matching switch is present (as in the “Professional” series). By lowering the force of the electric arc in order to cut the power drawn from a weak supply, or raising it on a strong supply, the stability of burning in the arc is improved even further.
The Anti-Stick function (anti-stick) lets the welder separate the electrode from the workpiece easily. In the event of a short circuit (should one occur), after a short pause the welding current is reduced automatically. Once the electrode is clear of the part, the source restores its operation automatically.
Main advantages of the ECO series:
- Protection system against voltage drops.
- An additional stabilisation circuit for larger long term voltage differences in the single phase mains supply, between 170 V and 260 V. At a minimum supply voltage of 170 V you can weld with an electrode of a diameter no larger than ø3.2 mm.
- Suited to the standard mains supply. Thanks to the high efficiency of the welder it gives half the electrical power demand compared with traditional sources.
- Practical use thanks to the long loading time at the rated current, which allows comfortable welding with electrodes of ø5 mm diameter at their rated current.
- Greater reliability in production conditions with heavy dust and with high humidity, thanks to the solid construction that shields the electronics.
- Longer life thanks to impregnating the electronic circuits with two layers of high quality lacquer, which keeps the product reliable over its whole service life.
- Improved stability of the electric arc.
- Efficiency thanks to the use of the latest advanced IGBT technology.
