Spartus ER309LSi is a stainless solid MIG/MAG wire with raised chromium and nickel for joining stainless steel to carbon and low alloy steels. It is also used for buffer layers on carbon steel before 308 overlays and for clad steels in service up to 300 °C.
Typical joints: 1.4301 (AISI 304) to S235 or S355. The higher chromium and nickel content leaves room for dilution with carbon steel, so the weld stays austenitic and crack resistant.
- AWS classification: ER309LSi
- EN ISO classification: 14343-A G 23 12 L Si
- Shielding gas: M12, M13
- Diameters: 0.8 / 1.0 / 1.2 mm
- Spools: 1 kg (D100), 5 kg (D200) and 15 kg (D300)
Keep separate brushes and discs for stainless work, carbon steel dust leaves rust stains on the bead. Match the feed rolls to the wire diameter and use a PTFE liner on longer torches, stainless wire drags more than carbon steel wire.
