What Thermanit 25/09 CuT TIG rod is used for

Thermanit 25/09 CuT is a high alloyed TIG rod for superduplex steels. It works on chemical installations, desalination plant, tanks and offshore structures in two phase steels.

Base materials include 1.4410, 1.4467, 1.4468, 1.4501, 1.4507, 1.4515 and 1.4517. The deposit matches the superduplex grades.

  • Classification EN ISO: 14343-A W 25 9 4 N L
  • AWS classification: A5.9 ER 2594
  • Shielding gas: I1
  • Diameters: 1.0 / 1.2 / 1.5 / 1.6 / 2.0 / 2.4 / 3.2 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (18929), ABS, DNV, CE

Do not quench the joint with water or force the cooling, too fast a cooling rate leaves too much ferrite in the weld. Set the gas post-flow long enough for the pool and the electrode to cool under the shield. Grind the tungsten tip along its axis and hold a short arc, otherwise the pool spreads. Thinner diameters suit root runs and thin sheet, thicker ones suit filling.

Typical weld metal values from the voestalpine Böhler Welding data sheet, issue 03/2026. The minimum or the range guaranteed by the maker is given in brackets. The figures depend on the heat treatment condition and the shielding gas stated in the row and do not replace testing the joint to your own WPS.
