Material and construction
The core of the 50-3072 blanket is a densely woven fibreglass fabric, a material that does not burn and has a high melting point. What sets this product apart is its distinctive gold coating. This special impregnation (most often vermiculite based) does several important jobs. First, it significantly increases resistance to abrasion and mechanical damage and stops the fibres from fraying. Second, it improves thermal insulation and the ability to "spread" the heat energy of hot spatter. Third, it binds loose fibres, which minimises dust and skin irritation during handling. The construction of the material gives effective, durable protection in demanding industrial conditions.
