The core of the 50-3068 blanket is specially woven fibreglass, a material valued in industry for being non-combustible, for its excellent insulating properties and for its high resistance to temperatures of up to 550°C. The gold coating does more than give the blanket its distinctive look: it also improves the properties of the material, increasing its abrasion resistance and helping to bind the fibres.
