Böhler pipeRunner is a system for mechanised orbital welding of pipes. The head travels on a ring fitted around the pipe and guides the torch round the joint, while the welder sets the parameters and supervises the run. We do not keep the system in regular stock; we select and quote it after talking to you.
What orbital pipe welding is
In orbital welding the torch is not guided by hand. It turns around the fixed pipe on a guide or a ring clamped on the circumference. This keeps the travel speed and the torch distance from the material repeatable round the whole circumference, also in the overhead and vertical positions.
Systems of this type work with the MIG/MAG and TIG processes. They are used where joint repeatability and a record of the parameters matter: pipelines, industrial installations, power generation, the chemical and food industries.
What it is suitable for
- Circumferential pipe joints, where the joint has to look the same all the way round.
- Work where the welder has no access all around the pipe and a forced position spoils manual guiding.
- Production and installation with joint documentation, where the parameter record is part of acceptance.
Status in our range
The pipeRunner system is supplied to order. We do not give the current, diameter range or head equipment here, because the selection depends on the material, the pipe diameter and wall thickness, the welding process and the power source available. We confirm these data with the manufacturer for a specific enquiry, together with the delivery date.
