What BÖHLER Q G 316L-Si solid MIG/MAG wire is used for

BÖHLER Q G 316L-Si is a high-alloyed austenitic stainless solid wire. It is used in tank building, process piping and equipment for the chemical and food industries.

Among the parent materials it covers 1.4401, 1.4404, 1.4409, 1.4429, 1.4432, 1.4435 and 1.4436. The wire also suits cladding runs on steel, and the deposit has an austenitic structure.

  • Classification EN ISO: 14343-A G 19 12 3 L Si
  • AWS classification: A5.9 / SFA-5.9 ER316LSi
  • Shielding gas: M12, M13
  • Diameters: 0.8 / 1.0 / 1.2 / 1.6 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (19798), DB (43.132.93), CE

Use brushes and discs kept only for stainless steel, carbon steel particles cause rust staining on the face. Set the gas flow so the pool is covered over the whole length of the bead, and shield the station when you work in wind. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback.

Typical weld metal values from the voestalpine Böhler Welding data sheet, issue 03/2021. The minimum or the range guaranteed by the maker is given in brackets. The figures depend on the heat treatment condition and the shielding gas stated in the row and do not replace testing the joint to your own WPS.
