Cloos GLW 500 is an industrial inverter TIG AC/DC power source with an MMA mode, controlled by a microprocessor. In the TIG method the current reaches 500 A at 30 V in a 60% duty cycle and 430 A at 27 V in a 100% duty cycle, the range starts at 5 A and 10 V. The supply is 3 x 400 V, the housing has protection rating IP23.
What this machine is for
This is a power source for heavy industry, shipyards and machine building, where high currents and long work without breaks are needed. A 100% duty cycle at 430 A lets you weld thick parts through a whole shift without thermal cut outs. With alternating current you join aluminium and its alloys, because the cleaning half wave breaks up the oxide layer, with direct current carbon steel, CrNi stainless steel, copper and titanium.
You set the alternating current frequency from 30 to 200 Hz. Lower values give a wider, soft arc and cover the edges better, higher ones gather the arc into a narrow column and fuse deeper, which comes in useful on precise joints and on thicker material. The machine works at manual and at mechanised stations, with welding tractors, column and boom units and positioners.
The MMA mode here is a full one: up to 450 A at a 60% duty cycle and 400 A at 36 V in a 100% duty cycle, with a range from 5 A and 20 V to 450 A and 38 V. You melt thick electrodes on repairs of building machines and on heavy structural work, without moving the station to another power source.
Features and equipment
- Microprocessor control of the inverter: precise shaping of the arc under a high current load.
- TIG AC for aluminium and TIG DC for steel, copper and titanium: one power source handles both groups of materials.
- AC frequency control from 30 to 200 Hz: from a wide, soft arc to a strongly concentrated, deeply fusing one.
- A 100% duty cycle at 430 A in TIG: continuous work without breaks for cooling the power source.
- MMA mode up to 450 A at 38 V, with a 100% duty cycle at 400 A and 36 V: thick electrodes on repairs of large parts.
- Readiness for automation: the stability of the arc lets you tie the power source into welding tractors, column and boom units and positioners.
- IP23 housing and a build following VDE 0544-1 and IEC 60974-1.

What to watch out for
The machine needs a three phase connection 3 x 400 V of a suitable rating, because at 500 A the draw is high. A 60% duty cycle at 500 A gives six minutes of welding in a ten minute window, without a limit you work at 430 A. The shop catalogue data give liquid cooling, and the source description holds no list of accessories, so confirm the torch, the cooler and the cables before you buy.
At currents above 400 A pick a torch and an earth cable with a suitable cross section, otherwise the losses and the heating will eat part of the output. This is a heavy stationary unit, plan a fixed station and a truck for unloading, and the data sheet gives no weight and no dimensions, so ask before transport.
How we sell used machines
This unit was checked in our service workshop in Krotoszyn with measurements to PN-EN 60974-4 and a load test. The price includes the first year of the basic service package: an inspection with cleaning of the machine and a validation measurement. Further years can be added. We ship across the European Union, collection in person by appointment.
