The ESAB Law 400W is a transformer MIG/MAG power source with a welding current of 400 A at a 50% duty cycle and 280 A at a 100% duty cycle. Supply 400 V, liquid cooling, a 4 roller wire feeder.
What this machine is for
This is a power source for structural steel welded with solid wire under gas shielding. The 280 A at a 100% duty cycle holds continuous work, and the 400 A at a 50% duty cycle gives a reserve for heavier joints and deeper fusion. The machine goes to a permanent station in a metal shop, in a steel structure works and in a repair plant.
The transformer build copes with dust and damp in the hall, and the arc is hard and predictable. The 4 roller wire feeder guides the wire evenly also with a longer torch, which limits jams in the liner.
Features and equipment
- 2 stroke and 4 stroke mode. In the 2 stroke mode you hold the trigger through the whole run, in the 4 stroke mode you release it after striking, which rests your hand on long welds.
- Crater filling. The current falls gently at the end of the weld, so no hollow is left in the crater.
- Burn back control. You set how much wire burns off after welding ends, so the wire does not stick to the contact tip.
- A 4 roller wire feeder. The pressure spreads over a larger area of the wire, which gives an even feed also with flux cored wire.
- Liquid cooling. The circuit with a pump takes heat from the torch when you work at a high current.

What to watch out for
The supply is 400 V, three phase. Liquid cooling: check the fluid level and the flow before you start, and the torch quick couplings before every shift. There is no pulse and no synergic programs here, you set the voltage and the wire feed yourself.
The record does not list a torch, an earth cable or an interconnection cable, so confirm the equipment before you buy. It gives no weight, and a transformer power source weighs a lot, so arrange transport and a place in the hall before collection.
How we sell used machines
This unit was checked in our service workshop in Krotoszyn with measurements to PN-EN 60974-4 and a load test. The price includes the first year of the basic service package: an inspection with cleaning of the machine and a validation measurement. Further years can be added. We ship across the European Union, collection in person by appointment.
