ESAB Origo Mig 430w with a separate Origo Feed 30w feeder is a heavy industrial MIG/MAG set with liquid cooling, of transformer and rectifier design with an output choke. The source gives 420 A at 35.0 V and a 50% duty cycle, 400 A at 34.0 V and a 60% duty cycle and 315 A at 30.0 V in continuous 100% work. Supply is 3 x 400 V at 50 Hz with a 32 A time delay fuse, and the interconnection package is about 10 m.
What this machine is for
This is a set for makers of steel and bridge structures, heavy machine production, semi trailers and frames and for industrial prefabrication. You set the current from 50 A at 16.5 V to 420 A at 35.0 V, and in work without breaks the source holds 315 A, which is enough for long beads with wire from 1.2 mm to 1.6 mm. The connected power is 19.6 kVA, and the input current at a 50% duty cycle reaches about 30 A.
You set the voltage in steps, with two switches on the front: a four range coarse one and a ten step fine one, which gives 40 working points in a range from 16.5 V to 35.0 V. The stepped design has no electronics controlling the power, so it takes disturbance well, and a step once chosen you reproduce from its number. You change the arc dynamics with one of three earth sockets of the choke: a higher inductance calms the pool and limits spatter in Ar/CO2 mixtures and on alloy steels, a lower one gives a harder and more focused arc with deeper penetration for thick steel under pure CO2.
The separate Feed 30w feeder of about 15 kg sits on a swivel base, and the interconnection package of about 10 m carries the current cable, 42 V control, shielding gas and the coolant supply and return. The heavy source of about 213 kg stays by the wall, and you move around the part with the feeder alone. The four roll drive feeds steel and stainless wires from 0.8 mm to 1.6 mm, cored ones from 1.0 mm to 1.6 mm and aluminium ones from 1.0 mm to 1.6 mm, once U type rolls and a PTFE liner are fitted.
Features and equipment
- Voltage adjustment over 40 steps: the coarse switch has 4 positions, the fine one 10, together they give repeatable working points from 16.5 V to 35.0 V.
- Three earth sockets of the choke: you change the character of the arc by moving the earth cable, from soft to hard and focused.
- Origo Feed 30w feeder with four rolls in two driven pairs, on a swivel base: speed from 1.5 m/min to 25.0 m/min.
- Feeder supply of 42 V AC at 50/60 Hz and a draw of about 420 VA: the control circuit is low voltage.
- Liquid cooler with a tank of about 5 l, a flow of about 1 l/min and a pressure of 2.5 bar: the ELP circuit starts the pump once welding begins and switches it off after about 3 minutes, and there is also a continuous mode.
- Coolant flow sensor: at a loss of circulation the circuit stops the welding at once and signals a fault, so the torch does not burn out.
- Digital current and voltage meter with a HOLD function: after you release the button the screen keeps the last measured values, so you check the parameters after the bead.
- Creep Start: the feed speed drops at the start to about 50% of the working setting, so the arc strikes softly.
- Burn-back adjustment from 0 s to 0.7 s: the wire end neither sticks to the pool nor fuses into the contact tip.
- Spot welding mode with a time from 0.2 s to 5.0 s: the tacks come out repeatable.
- Gas test and voltage free wire inching: you set the rotameter without feeding wire, and you change the spool with no voltage on the tip and without losing gas.
- EURO socket with brass cooling quick couplings and a wheeled chassis with a cylinder shelf, for spools up to 18 kg of the D300 and K300 type of 300 mm diameter.

What to watch out for
The set needs a 3 x 400 V mains at 50 Hz with a 32 A time delay fuse and a circuit sized for a connected power of 19.6 kVA. The source weighs about 213 kg at dimensions of about 812 x 552 x 925 mm, so it is a stationary unit and for unloading you need a pallet truck or a forklift. The coolant tank holds about 5 l, the flow is about 1 l/min at a pressure of 2.5 bar, and the flow sensor will block the welding at a loss of circulation, so check the level and the cleanliness of the fluid before the first shift. You plug the earth cable straight into one of the three inductance sockets on the source, and not into the feeder.
The product record puts the unit in the band up to 500 A, the model documentation gives 420 A at a 50% duty cycle, so confirm the configuration before you buy. The machine has no synergy and no pulse, you set the parameters with switches and knobs, which at a first station means finding the working point on a test bead. For aluminium you need U type rolls and a PTFE liner, and the catalogue range of diameters is from 1.0 mm to 1.6 mm. The source housing has protection class IP23, the feeder IP23 and IP2X.
How we sell used machines
This unit was checked in our service workshop in Krotoszyn with measurements to PN-EN 60974-4 and a load test. The price includes the first year of the basic service package: an inspection with cleaning of the machine and a validation measurement. Further years can be added. We ship across the European Union, collection in person by appointment.
