The Kemppi X8 600A FastMig is a multiprocess MIG/MAG power source with double pulse, liquid cooled. At a 40% duty cycle it gives 600 A, and it pulls 440 A without a break. The supply is 3 x 400 V.
What this machine is for
This is a power source for heavy and shipyard industry and for firms that make large size steel and aluminium structures. A current of 440 A in a 100% duty cycle means that you lay multi run welds on thick material one after another, without breaks to cool the power source. The upper 600 A at a 40% duty cycle stays for the thickest sections and for short, strong penetration runs.
Double pulse gives a face close to the TIG method at the output of MIG/MAG. You steer with it the amount of heat put into the material, which on aluminium translates into smaller distortion of thin elements and into an even ripple without work after welding.
You operate it through a wireless Control Pad. At the station you read the WPS welding procedure from it, so the welder works on approved parameters and not from memory. The power source connects with the WeldEye system, which collects data from production. The menu has a Polish language version, so bringing in a new operator goes faster.

What to watch out for
The supply is 3 x 400 V, so pick the power connection and the cable cross section for work at full current. The cooling is by liquid: check the fluid level, the flow and the tightness of the quick couplings before every shift, because work without flow destroys the torch. The current of 600 A has a 40% duty cycle, and for continuous work you count 440 A, and by that value you pick the cable cross sections and the torch.
The card does not list a wire feeder, a torch or an earth cable, so confirm the equipment before you buy. The WiseFusion and WisePenetration+ functions work on the programs loaded in the power source, with an unusual wire or gas you set the parameters by hand. For aluminium prepare rolls for soft wire and a liner.
