Fronius TransSteel 5000 Pulse is an industrial MIG/MAG set with liquid cooling, with an inverter source, a separate VR 5000 Remote feeder and an FK 5000 cooler. The current reaches 500 A at a 40% duty cycle, 420 A at 60% and 360 A in continuous 100% work, and adjustment starts at 10 A. The feeder is joined to the source by an interconnection cable of 5 m, so you work along a large part without moving the machine.
What this machine is for
This is a source for serial welding of steel structures. A current reserve of 500 A and synergic characteristics for steel, stainless steel, aluminium and flux cored wires cover thick plate, sections and farm and industrial machines. Continuous work at 360 A with a 100% duty cycle means long beads without breaks for cooling down, and liquid cooling with flow and temperature monitoring protects the torch.
The second area is visible parts in aluminium and acid resistant CrNi stainless steel. The MIG/MAG Pulse process controls droplet detachment in the pulse phases and limits spatter, and SynchroPulse changes the power cyclically between two working points and lays a finely rippled bead close to a TIG bead, at a travel speed typical for MIG/MAG. On top of that comes CuSi and CuAl braze welding on car body panels and galvanised sheet.
A layout with a separate feeder suits bridges, semi trailers, tanks and large installations. You set the parameters at the welding spot, and you switch the current and the memories with the Up/Down buttons on the torch handle, without walking up to the feeder. Fitted with an electrode cable the machine also welds with stick electrodes, and with a carbon torch, an earth cable of 120 mm2 cross section and compressed air it runs air carbon arc gouging.
The VR Pulse panel on the feeder is simple: you pick a synergic line for the material, the gas and the wire diameter, correct the arc length and the arc dynamics, and save the settings in the EasyJob memories. Currentless wire inching and a gas test shorten the changeover, and the display cover protects the panel in the hall.
Features and equipment
- MIG/MAG Pulse: the pulsed arc carries droplets without short circuits, limits spatter and the heat put in, so part of the grinding after welding falls away.
- SynchroPulse: double power modulation between two working points, for a neat bead on aluminium and stainless steel.
- Steel Root: a soft arc with a large gap bridging ability, for the root layer and badly fitted joints.
- Steel Dynamic: a hard, focused arc for deep penetration in thick sections.
- Arc length and arc dynamics correction: you change the focus of the arc and the reaction of the source at the moment of droplet detachment separately, to suit the shielding gas and your own habits.
- EasyJob: quick saving and recall of settings from the panel.
- VR 5000 Remote 4R feeder with the Pulse panel: it has a display cover, currentless wire inching and a gas test, and in the set a roll with a U 1.2 mm groove for soft wires.
- FK 5000 cooler with a flow and temperature sensor: if the circuit stops or the coolant overheats, the system quenches the arc and protects the water cooled torch.
- Up/Down control in the torch handle: you correct the current and switch memories without taking your eyes off the joint.
- Wire feed speed from 1.0 to 25 m/min: a range for thin sheet and for high output welding with flux cored wire.
- Synergic characteristics for steel, stainless steel, aluminium and flux cored wires: ready settings for the material and the shielding gas.
- CuSi and CuAl braze welding: joining galvanised sheet and car body parts at a lower temperature, without burning the coating.
- Working voltage from 14.5 to 39.5 V at an open circuit voltage of 65 V: a range that covers the short arc and the spray arc.

What to watch out for
The source runs from a 3 x 380, 400 or 460 V mains at 50 to 60 Hz and needs a 35 A fuse. The housing is class IP23, so a station under a roof. The cooler gives 1.0 kW at a flow of 1 l/min and cuts the arc itself when the coolant stops flowing or boils, so you check the coolant level, the hoses and the tightness of the couplings before the shift. The drive roll in the set has a U 1.2 mm groove for soft wires, and for steel wires you choose rolls with a V groove. The source alone weighs 34.5 kg and measures 747 x 300 x 497 mm, but the set with the feeder, the cooler and the trolley is moved by two people.
The set comes with a metrological check document valid until 05/2025, so if your production needs a current document, plan the next check. The MMA mode and air carbon arc gouging need separate accessories, which are not in the set. For aluminium choose the liner and the tips for the given alloy, and when working at 500 A the torch and the cables have to match that current class.
The interconnection cable of 5 m and the earth cable of 5 m give reach along a large part, but when you move the station they have to be coiled properly, because this is the part that wears out fastest. The torch is about 4 m long and has control in the handle, so check the state of the Up/Down buttons, of the liner and of the contact tips. A current range from 10 A helps on thin sheet, but on thin stainless steel choose the gas and the wire diameter before you set the synergic line.
How we sell used machines
This unit was checked in our service workshop in Krotoszyn with measurements to PN-EN 60974-4 and a load test. The price includes the first year of the basic service package: an inspection with cleaning of the machine and a validation measurement. Further years can be added. We ship across the European Union, collection in person by appointment.
