Description

About this machine

The Miller Maxstar 200 is an inverter power source for welding with a covered electrode at a current of 200 A. The description stresses that this is a real value, not a peak one from a catalogue. The machine also handles TIG with lift arc ignition.

What this machine is for

This is a power source for service, assembly and the workshop, that is where low weight and simple operation count. A covered electrode needs no gas cylinder and no wire feeder and works on material that cannot be cleaned well. A current of 200 A sets the upper limit of the electrode diameter you can sensibly strike.

Lift arc ignition in TIG mode means touching the material with the tungsten electrode and lifting it. There is no high frequency circuit here, so the machine does not disturb electronics and controllers nearby, which matters in halls with automation and with measuring equipment. This mode lets you add welds that need more cleanliness to assembly work, for example on stainless steel.

Features and equipment

  • Welding with a covered electrode at a current up to 200 A.
  • TIG with lift arc ignition, without a high frequency circuit.
  • Inverter build, low weight in relation to the welding current.

What to watch out for

The description does not give the supply or the type of cooling, so confirm the voltage and the circuit fuse before connection. It does not give the duty cycle either, and it is the duty cycle that decides how long you hold the full current without a break, so when you plan longer welds ask for the data from the rating plate.

The description does not list the equipment, that is the electrode holder, the earth cable or the TIG torch, you pick this set separately and match it to the current of 200 A. For work in TIG mode you add a cylinder with argon, a regulator and tungsten electrodes.
