Phoenix SH Chromo 2 KS is a core wire alloyed covered electrode with a basic coating, meant for manual arc welding. The deposit with 2.25 percent chromium and 1 percent molybdenum has a bainitic structure, and the mechanical properties are good after tempering and after quenching and tempering. Under defined conditions use without post weld heat treatment is permitted.
The base grades are 1.7380 (10CrMo9-10), 1.7375 (12CrMo9-10) and 1.7276 (10CrMo11). The material is approved for service under creep conditions at design temperatures up to 600 degrees C. A small content of residual elements gives a Bruscato factor below 15 ppm, so the weld resists temper embrittlement and passes the step cooling test. The basic coating holds the diffusible hydrogen at a low level.

An alloyed core wire keeps the deposit composition stable even when the current moves within the table, but the thermal regime applies as with every 2.25Cr-1Mo steel: preheat, weld without letting the part cool, anneal. On repairs to plant in service, agree with the inspector whether work without post weld heat treatment is allowed. Lay narrow beads and count the passes, so that the heat is spread evenly. Bake the electrodes before work and hand them out from a portable quiver.
