Description

About this machine

Lorch V30 AC/DC is an industrial TIG inverter power source for alternating and direct current, supplied from a 3 x 400 V mains. It gives 300 A at a 60% duty cycle and 250 A at 100%, and you set the current from 3 to 300 A. The set includes a TIG torch 8 m long, and the TipTronic memory holds 100 channels.

What this machine is for

Alternating current takes aluminium and magnesium alloys. The machine reverses the polarity and tears off the oxide layer, and the wave shape control is responsible for the cleanliness of the weld, so the joints come out without tungsten inclusions, which matters in aircraft and automotive structures. Direct current handles black and alloy steel, acid resistant steel, copper and titanium, with a concentrated arc and a narrow heat affected zone.

A current of 250 A at a 100% duty cycle means work without breaks through a whole shift, and 300 A at 60% gives a reserve for thick sections. The documentation aims this model at welding of acid resistant steel pipelines, production of aluminium structures, the aircraft, yacht and defence industry and at multi shift plants and prefabrication. The uses listed are aluminium frames in the automotive and aircraft industry, thin walled tanks in the food industry, in pharmacy and in brewing, rebuilding of castings from magnesium and hard alloys, pressure installations and transmission pipelines and production lines with ready jobs called up.

The third method is the covered electrode. The MMA mode is supported by Hot Start and Arc Force, so the strike is smooth and the arc steady with rutile and basic electrodes. That saves the job in the open air, where the gas shield in the TIG method gets blown away. A torch 8 m long lets you walk around a large structure without moving the power source and the cylinder.

Features and equipment

  • Power block in inverter technology: the circuit reacts to changes of the arc resistance at once, so the parameters hold the setting also under a long load at high current, without drops of output in the middle of a pass. That is the condition for work in continuous production, where the station has no time for breaks.
  • Insulated cooling ducts: the air goes through a duct sealed off from the electronics, so metal dust and filings from a grinder settle less often on the integrated circuits, and the machine works longer without a fault in a dusty hall and in a hard workshop environment.
  • TIG torch 8 m long: you weld large structures without rolling the power source and the gas cylinder around, which in prefabrication shortens the setting up of the station and cuts the number of breaks for moving the equipment.
  • Earth cable with a jaw clamp: a sure closing of the circuit without sparking on the contact with the parent material, which could disturb the work of the arc control algorithms. Once you connect the supply the set is ready for work without picking accessories.
  • Compatibility with ITC Powermaster: you connect torches from the Powermaster series to the panel and call up TipTronic programs or change the current straight from the handle, without taking your eyes off the pool.
  • SmartBase parameter base: the system picks the arc dynamics, the start current, the slope down and the gas flow times for the chosen electrode diameter, so you start from sensible settings instead of building the curve by hand before every part. With a changing range of work this saves a lot of time, and a new operator reaches a repeatable result sooner.
  • TipTronic memory for 100 channels: you save a full set of parameters together with the secondary settings and call up a ready program on a series job, so the welds are repeatable and the risk of a mistake when the part changes goes down. The programs have to be managed, because a hundred channels without a description soon turn into a mess.
  • Fast pulse up to 2 kHz: a high frequency narrows the plasma cone and concentrates the heat, so thin stainless sheet does not collapse and the thermal distortion is smaller. At such settings the arc melts the material in a narrow band, which saves parts in food trade work and on thin pipes.
  • AC balance control: you set the ratio of the time of the cleaning half wave to the penetrating one, which protects the tungsten electrode against overheating and lets you choose the penetration profile in thick aluminium castings. It is the same setting that decides the width of the zone cleaned of oxides around the pass.
  • AC frequency control from 50 to 200 Hz: a higher frequency concentrates and stiffens the arc, which helps on fillet welds in places that are hard to reach and holds the arc in the root instead of letting it wander over the walls.
  • Silent Pro: the system optimises the switching of the waves and brings down the loudness of the arc in AC mode, so the piercing squeal known from older alternating current welders is gone, a whole day shift tires you less and it is easier to hold your concentration.
  • HF ignition without contact: the arc starts without rubbing the electrode against the material, the electrode does not go blunt, and in the start zone there are no tungsten inclusions, which counts in non destructive testing.

What to watch out for

A 3 x 400 V supply needs a power socket and a circuit sized for the draw at 300 A. The product sheet gives gas cooling, and the torch in the set is 8 m, so during longer work at the upper settings the handle gets hot, ask about a liquid cooled version if you plan to weld aluminium at a current close to the maximum. The ventilation grilles have to stay clear, a covered inlet ends in a thermal cut out.

HF ignition disturbs unshielded electronics nearby, so watch what controllers stand next to it. At extreme AC balance settings the tungsten electrode wears faster, and at a high frequency the arc gets louder despite the Silent Pro system. Powermaster torches and ITC accessories are a separate purchase. The source description does not list a regulator or a stock of wear parts, so confirm the content of the set on collection.

How we sell used machines

This unit was checked in our service workshop in Krotoszyn with measurements to PN-EN 60974-4 and a load test. The price includes the first year of the basic service package: an inspection with cleaning of the machine and a validation measurement. Further years can be added. We ship across the European Union, collection in person by appointment.
