Frequently asked questions
Can I do arc welding with the IR5 glasses?
No. They are intended for gas welding, braze welding and oxygen cutting within the stated flow ranges. For MIG/MAG, TIG and MMA arc welding you need a welding helmet, such as the Guardian 62 (Böhler Welding Guardian 62 auto-darkening welding helmet).
Why not use an auto-darkening helmet for gas welding?
The manuals of the Evolution Vision 65 and Evolution V80 helmets exclude oxy-acetylene welding. For this work the manufacturer offers the IR5 glasses.
What if I work with a higher acetylene flow?
The IR5 range is 70 to 200 l/h acetylene and 900 to 2000 l/h oxygen for cutting. Outside these ranges this model is not intended; choose a filter to EN 169 that matches your flow.
Can I buy a single pair?
Yes, we sell them per piece with a VAT invoice; the manufacturer packs them in boxes of 20. For work without a flame, such as grinding, choose the clear Clear Pro glasses (Böhler Welding Eyewear Clear Pro anti-fog safety glasses).
