What it is for
Each program covers one combination: wire, diameter, gas. You enter wire speed or material thickness and the machine selects voltage and arc shape. The program is meant for high-strength steels, where repeatable heat input and a stable arc matter. The 1.2 mm diameter suits medium and thicker plate, typical in fabrication work. M21 is the most widely used mixture for structural steels.
