Castolin Total Arc 5000 LCD is an inverter MIG/MAG power source for 3 x 400 V, with current from 3 to 450 A. At a 60% duty cycle it gives 450 A, and 360 A it pulls without a break. Inside works a Fronius TPS 450 power source, the power factor is 0.99.
What this machine is for
This is a set for a workshop and for production, where mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium are welded in turn. The lower 3 A gives access to very thin sheet, the top 450 A to thick sections. At 360 A in a 100% duty cycle you lay long beads without breaks for cooling.
You weld manually, on synergic programs or with pulse. Pulse detaches the droplet with a current impulse, so you get less spatter and calmer heat input. The LCD version has a wide program list and more settings than the variant with a simple panel, so you hit the parameters for a given wire, gas and thickness more easily.

What to watch out for
Mains fuse 32 A with a 3 x 400 V supply. The record classes the machine up to 500 A, and the technical description gives 450 A at a 60% duty cycle, so take the lower value when you choose. The record gives liquid cooling, and the set list has no cooling unit, so a liquid cooled torch needs a separate module. The interconnection cable is 1.5 m, the feeder stands by the power source, and a wider reach needs a longer package. The torch is rated at 500 A.
