Kemppi X5 Fastmig 400, used MIG/MAG welder

Kemppi X5 FastMig 400 WP Auto is a multiprocess welding set with liquid cooling, built on the modular X5 platform. The source gives 400 A at a 60% duty cycle and 350 A at a continuous 100% load, and you set the current from 15 A to 400 A. Supply is 3 x 380 V to 460 V at 50/60 Hz with a 25 A fuse, and the housing has protection class IP23S.

What this machine is for

This is a station for intensive production of steel structures, heavy workshop jobs and serial processes. One source handles MIG/MAG, the synergic 1-MIG mode, MMA stick welding, TIG DC with lift arc ignition and air carbon arc gouging with a current up to 400 A, with which you remove weld defects and prepare edges. At a continuous load the machine holds 350 A, so you run long welds on thick material without breaks for cooling down.

The X5 Wire Feeder 300 Auto has a four roll drive and a rating of 500 A at a 60% duty cycle and 430 A at 100%, that is with a margin over the source. You set the feed speed from 0.5 m/min to 25 m/min, and you control it all from a TFT display of 5.7 inch diagonal, with a USB port and Bluetooth. Saved settings are recalled in one move, which in serial production run by several welders keeps the parameters in check. The X5 Work Pack 1-MIG package adds 33 ready welding programs for different materials and wire diameters.

The set is complete and ready to plug in at the station: besides the source and the feeder you get an X5 Cooler cooling module of 1.1 kW at a flow of 1 l/min with a 3 l tank, a four wheel X5 Gas Cylinder Cart for the cylinder, a feeder swivel unit with the number X8702010000, a liquid cooled Binzel MB PRO EVO 501 torch of 5 m, an earth cable of 5 m and a GCE gas regulator. The swivel unit widens the working radius of the feeder at the station, and the cart lets you roll the whole set together with the cylinder.

Features and equipment

• WiseSteel: the circuit changes the arc characteristic separately for the short arc, the transition arc and the spray arc, so there is clearly less spatter, edge wetting is better and less finishing work is left after welding.
• WiseFusion: the arc is narrow and tightly focused, which deepens penetration while keeping the travel speed, limits lack of fusion and reduces the heat put into the material, so the structure distorts less.
• WisePenetration Plus: the circuit holds a steady welding current in spite of changes in the free wire stickout, correcting the feed speed and the arc voltage, which gives sure root fusion in deep bevels. Availability depends on the licence in this unit, so confirm the activation before you buy.
• X5 Work Pack 1-MIG package with 33 welding programs: the base parameters are set automatically once you point to the material and the wire diameter, so changing the station over takes a moment.
• X5 Wire Feeder 300 Auto with a four roll drive: a rating of 500 A at a 60% duty cycle and 430 A at 100%, feed speed from 0.5 m/min to 25 m/min, without wire slip.
• TFT display of 5.7 inch diagonal with a USB port and Bluetooth: you read parameters and recall saved settings at the part, and you move data between stations.
• Feeder supply of 48 V DC and a maximum shielding gas pressure of 0.5 MPa: the control circuit is low voltage, and the gas installation has a set working limit.
• X5 Cooler cooling module of 1.1 kW at a flow of 1 l/min, with a 3 l tank and a maximum pressure of 4 bar, that is 0.4 MPa: the Auto, ON and OFF modes let you match the cooling to the load.
• Binzel MB PRO EVO 501 torch of 5 m, liquid cooled: it takes the heat away from the nozzle when you work at high currents, and at 5 m you have reach around the part.
• X5 Gas Cylinder Cart with the number X5701020000 and the X8702010000 feeder swivel unit: you roll the whole set with the cylinder, and you turn the feeder at the station.
• Open circuit voltage from 54 V to 67 V and a maximum power of 20 kVA: industrial figures, and you size the supply circuit for them.

What to watch out for

The machine needs an industrial supply of 3 x 380 V to 460 V at 50/60 Hz and a fuse of at least 25 A, and the maximum power reaches 20 kVA. The Binzel MB PRO EVO 501 torch and the earth cable are 5 m each, so you count the real reach from the feeder, and for bigger parts plan a longer set. The cooler gives 1.1 kW at a flow of 1 l/min and has a 3 l tank, so check the level and the cleanliness of the coolant before you work at high currents, and the pressure in the circuit does not go over 4 bar. Hold the shielding gas pressure at the feeder inlet to 0.5 MPa.

WiseSteel and WiseFusion are in the source in the WP version, while the availability of WisePenetration Plus depends on the loaded licences, so confirm its activation with us before you buy, and the same goes for the scope of the program package. The set is large and heavy: the source, the feeder, the cooler, the cart and the cylinder form one platform, for transport you need a pallet truck and in the hall a fixed place. Protection class IP23S allows workshop conditions but not washing with a jet.

How we sell used machines

This unit was checked in our service workshop in Krotoszyn with measurements to PN-EN 60974-4 and a load test. The price includes the first year of the basic service package: an inspection with cleaning of the machine and a validation measurement. Further years can be added. We ship across the European Union, collection in person by appointment.
