Kjellberg PA-S47 CNC, also known as FineFocus 450, is an industrial machine plasma source for cutting on CNC gantries and cutting tables. At a 100% duty cycle the unit gives 100 A, and the current is set steplessly from 40 A upwards. Supply is 3 x 400 V at 50 Hz with 34 kVA. The set has to be completed, because the torch head at the end of the cable package is cut off.
What this machine is for
This is a base for a CNC station for service workshops, machine integrators and plants upgrading cross slide tables. A 100% duty cycle at 100 A lets you cut serial parts from structural sheet through a whole shift, without stops for the power unit to cool down. The catalogue cutting thickness reaches about 45 mm, and quality cutting about 35 mm.
FineFocus technology, described by the manufacturer as the Double-Straight-Effect, combines the plasma gas with a swirl gas. That layout forms and stabilises the arc core, so the edge is less bevelled and less dross forms than with air plasma. Parts after the nest need less fitting work, which in serial production counts for more than the current itself.
The mixer handles oxygen, argon, hydrogen and nitrogen among others, so you match the gases to the material: carbon steel, acid resistant stainless steel and aluminium. This is a solution for plants that already have sound Kjellberg PB-S47 W-2 torches and need a strong unit, or that are building a new cutting gantry from scratch.
Plasma cuts with an arc burning between the electrode in the torch and the material, in a gas stream squeezed in the nozzle. Edge quality is decided by how tightly the arc is focused and how the gas is routed, which is why in this class of sources the gas console is part of the technology, not an accessory.

What to watch out for
The set has no complete working torch, the head at the end of the package is cut off. Before start-up the PB-S47 W-2 body has to be fitted by the service workshop or a new package bought, and the gas, current, pilot and cooling lines crimped properly. On top of that comes wiring the signals to the CNC controller and linking it with the torch height control THC on the table side.
Supply is 3 x 400 V at 50 Hz, the power is 34 kVA and the fuse 50 A time delay. An open circuit voltage of 400 V with high voltage ignition calls for sound insulation of the whole harness, so leave the terminating of the package to a service workshop, not to a quick repair at the station. The torch is liquid cooled, so you check the pump, the hoses and the tightness of the circuit before the first cut.
The unit weighs about 251 kg and measures 1025 x 711 x 970 mm, so prepare a forklift for unloading. Confirm the cutting current before you buy, because the shop catalogue data and the documentation give different values.
How we sell used machines
This unit was checked in our service workshop in Krotoszyn with measurements to PN-EN 60974-4 and a load test. The price includes the first year of the basic service package: an inspection with cleaning of the machine and a validation measurement. Further years can be added. We ship across the European Union, collection in person by appointment.
