The Lincoln Electric Invertec V350-PRO is a multiprocess inverter power source for the MIG/MAG, TIG DC and MMA methods. You set the output current from 5 to 425 A, at a 60% duty cycle the machine gives 350 A, and the efficiency at full load is 88%. The net weight is 36.7 kg at protection class IP23 and IP21S.
What this machine is for
This is one source instead of several separate machines. In MIG/MAG mode it works with a wire feeder and a constant voltage characteristic, in TIG DC with a touch start, in MMA with a covered electrode, and with the right holder also with air arc gouging with an electrode up to 7.9 mm in diameter. The range from 5 A lets you go down to thin sheet with the TIG method, and 425 A gives reserve on heavy welds and when you take out defects.
The documentation points this model to heavy industry, steel structures, shipyards and industrial building. The applications listed are production of bridge and building structures, repairs in shipyards and docks, assembly of transmission pipelines in the field, air arc gouging in repairs of castings and in removing weld defects, series welding of components for farm and construction machines, maintenance in the power industry and welder training centres that want one machine for all the methods.
The second matter is work in the field. The source takes a supply in several voltage variants, from 208 through 230, 380, 415 and 460 up to 575 V, in a single or three phase system, and the voltage compensation circuit takes mains swings up to 10%. The weight of 36.7 kg and a housing with tubular handles let you carry the machine onto scaffolding and stand it on uneven ground. The constant voltage CV mode also handles Innershield and Outershield self shielded wires, that is welding without a cylinder in the open.
Features and equipment
- Multiprocess inverter power source: MIG/MAG, TIG DC and MMA in one housing, with microprocessor control that reacts to changes of the arc length and limits spatter. One machine replaces several separate sources, and for each method you pick only the equipment, not the whole bay.
- F.A.N. cooling system (Fan As Needed): the fan starts only when the temperature rises, so the machine draws in less metal dust and makes less noise at the bay.
- Skid type housing with tubular handles: the frame protects the machine against knocks on a building site, and the electronics are separated from the air ducts.
- Line Voltage Compensation: stable welding with supply voltage swings up to 10%, which matters on a long extension lead and on a generator supply.
- Multi voltage supply from 208 to 575 V: the machine works in installations of different voltages, single and three phase.
- Self-Configure: the source recognises the connected equipment itself, that is a wire feeder or a remote control pedal, so you do not set the signal sockets by hand.
- Panel with a digital read out: you set the current and the voltage before you strike the arc, which you need when you keep to WPS procedures. You handle the large knobs in gloves, and diodes tell you about overheating and supply faults. This model has no setting lock with a code.
- Arc Control: adjustment of the arc hardness to the process and the position. In MMA you pick the Soft mode for rutile electrodes or Crisp for cellulosic ones, in MIG/MAG the same knob changes the inductance and steers the spread of the pool.
- Touch Start TIG: you strike the arc with a short touch of the electrode, without a high frequency circuit, so the machine suits places sensitive to electromagnetic interference, and the electrode wears more slowly than with a scratch start.
- CV mode for self shielded wires: a characteristic prepared for Innershield and Outershield fillers, that is work without shielding gas in the field.
- 14-pin and 6-pin sockets: the source works with Lincoln Electric feeders, among them the LF-72, the LF-74 and the suitcase LN-25 PRO, so you put the bay together for the job at hand instead of buying a ready set.

What to watch out for
The product data sheet gives a welding current up to 500 A and a 400 V supply, and the source description a range from 5 to 425 A and several voltage variants, so confirm both on the rating plate before you buy, because the choice of circuit depends on it. At a 60% duty cycle the machine gives 350 A, for higher values plan breaks. For work with the MIG/MAG method you need a separate wire feeder with a control cable, and for gouging a holder for carbon electrodes and compressed air.
The source works on direct current, so you will not weld aluminium with the TIG method on it, for light alloys you need an AC/DC machine. The touch start takes practice, because a start without high frequency depends on the hand of the welder. In a very dusty place the inside has to be blown out from time to time despite the F.A.N. system. The source description does not list torches, an earth cable or a feeder, so confirm the content of the set on collection.
