The Migatronic Commander 400 is an inverter TIG power source for alternating and direct current, liquid cooled. The description gives 400 A at a 35% duty cycle and 295 A at a 100% duty cycle, HF ignition and a pulse mode.
What this machine is for
With alternating current you weld aluminium and its alloys, with direct current stainless steel, mild steel and copper. At a 100% duty cycle the source holds 295 A, so you make long runs on thicker material without breaks, and you have the peak of 400 A at a 35% duty cycle, for example on sealing runs and on starts on cold material.
HF ignition starts the arc without touching the material with the electrode, so the tungsten stays clean and the start of the weld looks even. The pulse mode helps on thin sheet and when you weld in position, because the peak current melts in and the base current cools the pool. A liquid cooled torch stands up to longer work at high current and is lighter in the hand than a gas cooled torch.

What to watch out for
The 400 V supply needs a three phase socket, and the description gives no value for the fuse, so agree the connection with an electrician. HF ignition can disturb the controllers of machines standing next to it, so near CNC controls watch the earthing and the distance. With liquid cooling check the coolant level and the flow through the hoses, because a torch without flow is destroyed fast. The description gives no weight and no dimensions, so arrange the transport before collection.
