The ESAB Aristo MIG 500 with the U8 panel is an inverter MIG/MAG welder for a 400 V supply, liquid cooled. The power source gives 500 A at a 60% duty cycle and 400 A at a continuous 100% load, with the current set from 16 A to 500 A. It handles MIG/MAG, MMA and air carbon arc gouging.
What this machine is for
The setting span from 16 A to 500 A makes this power source a machine for one universal station. At the bottom of the range you tack and weld thin sheet, at the top you lay thick fillets and multi run joints. At 400 A the work is continuous, without breaks for cooling.
Apart from welding with wire in a gas shield the machine takes a covered electrode in MMA mode and air carbon arc gouging, with which you cut out faulty welds with a carbon electrode and compressed air. The Super Puls double pulse has a separate setting of the primary and the secondary phase: in one you run a short arc, in the other the pulse, so on vertical welds the pool sets and does not run down.

What to watch out for
The machine needs a 400 V mains and a power circuit matched to work at 500 A. The interconnection cable is about 1.5 m long, so the wire feeder stands by the power source. For gouging buy a holder, carbon electrodes and compressed air, the set does not hold them.
The cooler needs fluid with frost protection, so check the level, the flow and the tightness of the quick couplings before the first strike. The card does not give the weight or the dimensions.
