The Kemppi FastMig KMS 500 is an inverter MIG/MAG power source with synergic control. You set the current from 10 to 500 A, at a 60% duty cycle the machine gives 500 A, and it pulls 390 A without a break. The set has a four roll 4WD feeder and a FastCool 10 liquid cooler.
What this machine is for
This is a power source for heavy industry: machine production, steel structures in the EXC2 and EXC3 classes, pressure tanks and thick walled pipelines, the shipyard industry and repairs of construction, farm and mining equipment. The range from 10 to 500 A covers thin sheet and thick multi run welds, and 390 A in a 100% duty cycle sets the pace of multi shift work.
The Kemppi MultiSystem architecture rests on synergic control. You choose the thickness of the material and the type and diameter of the wire, and the power source picks the voltage and the feed speed. This shortens the preparation of the station and orders the work where you have to keep to the WPS welding procedure and repeat the welds between shifts.
The set is modular. You join the power source with the four roll 4WD feeder and the FastCool 10 cooler, which holds the temperature of the torch in long welding at a current of 500 A. The metal housing protects the electronics against metal dust and against knocks, typical in a production hall. The four roll drive also leads wires of 1.6 mm diameter and soft aluminium wires.

- Gas Test and Wire Inch service functions: you check the gas flow and lead the wire into the torch without voltage on the contact tip.
- Four roll 4WD feeder with adjustable pressure of the rolls, which does not deform soft wire.
- FastCool 10 liquid cooler for work with a liquid cooled torch.
- Work with cable bundles up to 20 metres long.

What to watch out for
The supply is 3 x 400 V with a tolerance of 10% and a 35 A slow blow fuse, so the connection has to carry the start up and the work at full current. The housing has protection class IP23S, that is a hall and a workshop yes, constant work in the rain no. The cooling is by liquid: check the fluid level, the flow and the tightness of the quick couplings before the first start, because the circuit stood during transport.
The duty cycle is 500 A at 60% and 390 A at 100%, and it is the second number that sets the pace of production without breaks. The four roll drive also leads soft aluminium wires, but then the pressure of the rolls has to be set with care, so as not to flatten the wire. The documentation allows cable bundles up to 20 metres, and at such a length you watch the bending radius and the choice of the liner. The card does not list a torch, an earth cable or an interconnection package, ask about them before you buy.
