Lincoln Electric CV 420 is a transformer MIG/MAG power source with a separate LF33 wire feeder. You set the current from 30 to 420 A, at a 60% duty cycle the machine gives 420 A, and 325 A it pulls without a break. The set has an interconnection cable of about 20 m.
What this machine is for
This is equipment for steel structure plants, shipyards and mechanical workshops that run two or three shifts. A classic copper transformer takes dust, voltage swings and damp better than complex electronics, so the machine suits thick plate and heavy structures.
What sets this set apart is the interconnection cable of about 20 m. The power source stands in one place and you walk with the feeder over the hall frame or over a ship section, also at height and in places with hard access. You do not drag a heavy power source behind you, which cuts the time needed to set up the station.
You adjust the voltage and the wire feed steplessly, and you read the settings from a digital display. The panel has 2 stroke and 4 stroke modes, so you run long stretches without holding the trigger. 325 A at a 100% duty cycle sets the pace of continuous work, and 420 A at a 60% duty cycle is left for the thickest joints.
Features and equipment
- Separate LF33 wire feeder with a four roll drive that feeds the wire steadily whatever the torch length.
- Handles steel, flux cored and aluminium wires in various diameters.
- Stepless adjustment of voltage and wire feed.
- Digital display of the settings.
- 2 stroke and 4 stroke modes.
- Interconnection cable of about 20 m, with which you move the feeder far from the power source.
- Transformer build without complex electronics in the power source.

- interconnection cable of about 20 m
- earth cable 3 m
- supply cable 5 m
What to watch out for
Supply 3 x 400 V with a 32 A fuse. The product record gives liquid cooling, and the torch in the set is gas cooled, so for a liquid torch you need a separate cooling module. With a 20 m package watch how you run the cable and which rollers you fit, because on a long path the wire jams more easily and the resistance of the circuit rises.
A transformer power source is heavy, so plan a fixed station and unloading with a forklift. The earth cable is 3 m, shorter than the interconnection package, so you move the earth clamp along with the part. The torch is rated 500 A, a margin over the current of the power source.
