Paton ProMIG-250 15-2 MIG/MAG welder, basic information
The Paton ProMIG 200 MIG/MAG welder is intended for semi-automatic welding in the MIG/MAG process under shielding gases and protective gas mixtures, for manual arc welding in the MMA process and for arc welding under argon in the TIG process with direct current.
The design of the 160 PSI PRO 15-2 model (15 kilogram spool, which also handles a 5 kilogram spool, 2 roll feeder) gives one of the best levels of protection against outside conditions on the market. The rated current of this model, 160A at a 70% duty cycle, is a result that allows intensive welding of 6 mm material without any risk of overheating the machine. The power source can be separated from the wire feed mechanism for comfort of use and for safety. A hallmark of the PATON™ Professional series semi-automatic machines is a high quality sealed metal wire feeder, together with the KZ-2 connector of the "EURO" type, which has become a world standard and lets you change the torch later as you see fit.
In a fully electronic system the control unit has absolutely all the resources of the power source at its disposal, within the limits of its full output and regardless of the process in use. Machines of the "Professional" series are intended for industrial use, for the most demanding users.
Functions and features of the Paton ProMIG-250 15-2 MIG/MAG welder
GASLESS WELDING, WELDING WITH SELF SHIELDED WIRE
All PATON MIG/MAG machines are prepared for welding with self shielded wire. Unlike the traditional MIG/MAG process, such welding runs without shielding gas, but it does call for a special welding wire. That wire produces its own shield, which helps protect the welding arc.
BRAZE WELDING, INDUCTANCE CONTROL
Paton MIG/MAG machines in the Standard and PRO series can braze weld thanks to inductance switching in three steps. Inductance control tunes the arc characteristic to the thickness of the part being welded. The function is needed to change how fast the current flows when the arc voltage changes. The thinner the part welded with MIG/MAG, the higher the inductance should be (soft arc, less penetration), for thick parts it is the other way round (hard arc, deeper penetration).
PULSE IN EVERY PROCESS
PULSE in the TIG process, full control over the heat put into the material, a strong function for welding stainless and acid resistant steel,
PULSE in the MMA process, easier transfer of material from the electrode into the weld pool, better quality of the welded joint,
PULSE in the MIG/MAG process, the metal droplet breaks away from the end of the electrode wire more easily, and the pulsed current parameters can be adjusted. Pulsed MIG welding is useful for stainless and acid resistant steels and for aluminium alloys. Welding with pulse also gives better parameters when braze welding with CuSi3
MAIN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE STANDARD AND PRO SERIES MIG/MAG MACHINES:
- duty cycle, machines of the PRO series have a 70% duty cycle, while the Standard series has a 45% cycle at the same welding current. On top of that, PRO series machines reach continuous duty at a higher welding current than Standard series machines.
- wire feeder, the PRO series has a separate wire feeder that handles spools from 15 to 18 kilos. The feeder can be separated from the power source for easier welding in other processes, for example MMA or TIG DC. The PRO series also comes in 2 roll or 4 roll wire feeder versions. In Standard series machines the feeder is built into the welder, handles only spools up to 5 kilograms and always has two rolls.

Main strengths:
- Broad adjustment of the welding parameters:
, MMA process, 1 (basic) + 10 (additional)
, TIG process, 1 (basic) + 10 (additional)
, MIG/MAG process, 2 (basic) + 8 (additional) - Welding with pulsed current, which is also programmable, in all welding modes;
- Apart from protection against mains voltage surges, the machines have a work stabilising system for longer voltage changes in a single phase power grid and run correctly over a voltage range from 160 V to 260 V. Keep in mind that at the minimum voltage of 160 V you can weld with an electrode no larger in diameter than ø 3 mm, or run semi-automatic welding with wire no larger in diameter than ø 0.8 mm;
- Matched to the standard power grid. Thanks to its high efficiency the power source
gives half the demand for electricity compared with traditional power sources; - Automatic matching of the fan speed, which runs harder when the machine is hot and slows down when the machine is not in use. This affects fan wear, cuts the amount of dust inside the machine and lowers noise during welding
- Comfortable work tied to loading the machine at its rated current, without
the need for breaks to cool the machine down at 25 °C. - High reliability of the machine in production with heavy dust and high
humidity. - Longer life thanks to impregnation of the electronics with two coats of high quality lacquer, which keeps the product reliable through its whole service life.
- The welder has electronic thermal protection that guards every heat generating part of the welding unit against overheating.
- Improved arc stability.
- Stepless adjustment of the welding parameters.
- Efficiency from the use of the latest advanced IGBT technology.
