The digital multi-process inverter semi-automatic welder PATON® MultiPRO-270 400V is intended for semi-automatic welding in the MIG/MAG method, for manual arc welding in the MMA method and for arc welding in the TIG HF method under shielding gases and gas mixtures with direct current. Units of the MultiPro series have a non-contact arc ignition module (oscillator) with a built-in gas inlet valve.
The fully electronic control system used in this machine removes the weak points that are typical of multi-process units built on analogue control, which by definition are always aimed at one chosen method, while every remaining method is bolted on and carries control compromises. In a fully electronic system the control unit has all the resources of the power source at its disposal, within its full output and no matter which method is in use. The "Multi-Professional" series is intended for industrial use, and the power source can be separated from the wire feed mechanism, both for convenience in use and for safety.
Thanks to the extra adjustment, you can choose the welder settings that suit the situation best. The power source delivers a rated current of 270A, which is enough to work with electrodes from ⌀ 1.6 mm up to the easily melting ⌀ 6 mm, and for semi-automatic welding with solid wire of a diameter from ⌀ 0.6 mm to ⌀ 1.2 mm. The source comes preset to optimal values and is simple enough as long as you do not dig into the finer settings, which already ask for more experience from the welder. For hazardous working conditions the unit carries a block that lowers the open circuit voltage in the MMA method, and that block can be switched on and off.
A hallmark of PATON® "Multi-Professional" series semi-automatic machines is the high quality sealed metal wire feeder, along with the KZ-2 "EURO" connector that has become a world standard and lets you change the torch later as you see fit. The machine has a protection module against incorrect mains voltage levels (surges or dips) as well as against overvoltage. Because the voltage supplied to the transformer runs at a raised frequency, the transformer can be several times smaller. That is why the weight and the overall dimensions of the welder are several times smaller than those of ordinary machines with the same output ratings.

GASLESS WELDING, WELDING WITH SELF-SHIELDED WIRE
All PATON MIG/MAG machines are prepared for welding with self-shielded wire. Unlike the standard MIG/MAG process, this kind of welding runs without shielding gas, but it does call for a special welding wire. Such wire builds its own shield, which helps to protect the welding arc. Self-shielded wire matched to PATON welders can be bought here, and the 5 kilogram spools fit every wire feeder.
MULTIPRO SERIES, BUILT-IN IONISER
MultiPro series welders have a built-in HF IONISER, which gives non-contact arc ignition in TIG welding. This extension is handled by the TIG torch trigger. The trigger control lead is connected straight to that module. Once you press the trigger on the torch, the control signal goes to the controller of the welding machine, which runs the gas pre-flow function t1 to clean the weld area before welding, and then, with a delay, sends the signal that switches the unit on, so welding in TIG with non-contact arc ignition becomes possible.
BRAZE WELDING, INDUCTANCE CONTROL
Paton MIG/MAG machines of the Standard and PRO series can braze weld, thanks to inductance switching in three steps. Inductance control lets you tune the arc characteristic to the thickness of the workpiece. This function is needed to change how fast the current flows when the arc voltage changes. The thinner the part to be welded with MIG/MAG, the higher the inductance should be (soft arc, shallower penetration), and the other way round for thick parts (harsh arc, deeper penetration).

A further advantage is the CLEAN mode, which cleans stainless steel parts and their welds of oxides and of discolouration left after welding, and also polishes the surface to bring back its looks and its corrosion resistance. Work in CLEAN mode calls for buying a special electrolyte fluid for passivating high alloy steels and a PATON TIG brush. Without those accessories, cleaning and polishing stainless steel with this function is not possible.
