MIG/MAG welder Paton ProMIG 270 (15-4) 400V, basic information
The Paton ProMIG 270 15-4 MIG/MAG welder is intended for semi automatic welding with the MIG/MAG process under shielding gases and gas mixtures, for manual arc welding with the MMA process and for DC arc welding under argon with the TIG process.
The design of the ProMIG 270 15-4 model (15 kilogram spool, which also takes a 5 kilogram spool, 4 roll feeder) gives one of the best levels of protection against outside conditions on the market. The rated current of this model, 270A at a 70% duty cycle, allows intensive welding of 6 mm material with no risk of overheating the machine. The power source can be separated from the wire feed unit, both for ease of use and for safety. A mark of the PATON™ Professional series semi automatic machines is the high quality sealed metal wire feeder, together with the KZ-2 connector of the "EURO" type, which has become a worldwide standard and lets the user change the torch later as they see fit.
In a fully electronic system the control unit commands every resource of the power source, within its full output and no matter which process is used. The "Professional" series machine is intended for industrial use, for the most demanding users.
Functions and features of the Paton ProMIG 270 (15-4) 400V MIG/MAG welder
GAS FREE WELDING FUNCTION, WELDING WITH SELF SHIELDED WIRE
All PATON MIG/MAG machines are prepared for welding with self shielded wire. Unlike the standard MIG/MAG process, this kind of welding runs without shielding gas, but it does call for a special welding wire. Such wire builds its own shield, which helps to protect the welding arc. You can buy self shielded wire suited to PATON welders here, and 5 kilogram wire spools will fit every wire feeder.
BRAZE WELDING, INDUCTANCE CONTROL
Paton MIG/MAG machines of the Standard and PRO series can be used for braze welding thanks to inductance switching in three steps. Inductance control lets you tune the arc characteristic to the thickness of the welded part. This function is needed to change the rate of current flow when the arc voltage changes. The thinner the part to be welded with MIG/MAG, the higher the inductance should be (soft arc, shallower penetration); for thick parts it is the other way round (hard arc, deeper penetration).
PULSE FUNCTION
- PULSE in the TIG process full control of the heat put into the material, a strong function for welding stainless and acid resistant steel,
- PULSE in the MMA process easier transfer of material from the electrode into the weld pool, better quality of the welded joint,
- PULSE in the MIG/MAG process easier release of the metal droplet from the end of the electrode wire, with adjustable pulsed current parameters. MIG welding with pulse is useful for stainless and acid resistant steels and for aluminium alloys. Pulse welding also gives better parameters in CuSi3 braze welding.
The machine has synergic control in pulse mode, which picks the best welding parameters automatically and keeps the arc stable and the weld quality high.
MAIN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE STANDARD AND PRO SERIES MIG/MAG MACHINES:
- duty cycle, PRO series machines have a 70% duty cycle, while the Standard series has a 45% cycle at the same welding current. PRO series machines also reach a continuous duty cycle at a higher welding current than Standard series machines.
- wire feeder, the PRO series has a separate wire feeder that takes spools from 15 to 18 kilograms. The feeder can be detached from the power source for comfortable welding with other processes, for example MMA or TIG DC. The PRO series also comes in 2 roll and 4 roll feeder versions. In Standard series machines the feeder is built into the welder, takes only spools up to 5 kilograms and always has two rolls.
