Description

About this machine

Castolin TotalArc2 3000 is an inverter MIG/MAG power source with pulse and synergy, built on the Fronius TPS 2700 system. You set the current steplessly from 3 to 270 A, and the duty cycle at a temperature of 40°C is 270 A at 40% and 170 A at 100%. The supply is 3 x 400 V with a 16 A fuse, and the liquid cooler is built into the source.

What this machine is for

This is equipment for metalwork shops, mobile service firms and plants that make structures in aluminium and acid resistant stainless steel. A 16 A fuse with 270 A of welding current is a rare pairing: you plug the machine in where the installation is weaker, and still have liquid cooling and pulse.

Pulse moves the metal in droplets, so there is practically no spatter and grinding after welding drops to a minimum. The synergic programs cover mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium alloys, AlMg5 and AlSi5 among them: you choose a program and the machine picks the voltage and the wire feed. Stepless adjustment lets you trim the arc length to a given joint, and a stable arc from 3 A upwards makes small repairs and work on thin parts possible.

Liquid cooling makes practical sense here with aluminium, which quickly gives heat away to the equipment. A circuit with its own pump holds the torch temperature at currents of the order of 270 A, so the wear parts last longer and the parameters do not drift during a long bead.

The pedigree of the machine is practical information here: the build matches the Fronius TPS 2700 system, so you get the pulse algorithms from that family, and the equipment and the wear parts are chosen by the same logic. In daily work that means a familiar way of setting the arc and easy ordering of consumables.

The four roll feeder guides the wire without deforming it in the channel, so the speed in the pool stays constant. That is the condition for a calm pulse, above all on aluminium, where every jam of the wire shows on the face. A solid feeder housing shields the mechanism from grinding dust, which is the most common cause of feeding trouble.

Features and equipment

  • Pulsed welding: metal transfer droplet by droplet, without spatter, with an even face.
  • Synergy with programs for mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium alloys: once you choose the program the machine sets the voltage and the feed.
  • Stepless current adjustment from 3 to 270 A: from micro repairs to full load.
  • 4 roll feeder: it guides soft aluminium wires and hard steel ones, without deforming the filler.
  • Built in liquid cooler with its own pump: work at 270 A without overheating the wear parts of the torch.
  • Current slope up and slope down: a gentle end of the bead limits cracking of the crater.
  • Digital arc control: a reaction to a change in the distance from the torch to the material, so the parameters stay constant.
  • A panel with a quick choice of program, worked in welding gloves.
  • An inverter build with a built in cooler, which you move around the plant.
  • Operating manual in PDF format.

You work the panel in gloves, and changing the program takes a moment, which matters in a mobile service and when working on several parts at once. Current slope up and slope down closes the bead gently, so the crater does not crack and does not have to be corrected.

What to watch out for

A 16 A fuse is an advantage in a workshop with a weaker installation, but it does not mean the machine draws little current at full load: at 270 A and long beads it is worth checking whether the circuit is not shared with other loads. Pulse and work from 3 A give a wide range of uses, from micro repairs to full parameters, only you have to match the wire diameter and the gas to them.

The supply is 3 x 400 V with a 16 A fuse. The duty cycle counted at a temperature of 40°C is 270 A at 40% and 170 A at 100%, so with long beads plan the current closer to the lower value. The cooler is built into the source: you check the level and the cleanliness of the fluid and the tightness of the circuit after delivery and before every shift. The torch in the set is 4 m and the earth cable 3 m, which sets the reach of the station.

For aluminium prepare rolls for soft wire and a guide liner, and before you buy settle which wire diameters you want to feed and which set of rolls is in the feeder.

How we sell used machines
