Paton StandardMIG-270 400V MIG/MAG welder, key data
The digital inverter welder PATON™ PSI 270 STANDARD DC 400V is meant for semi-automatic arc welding in MIG/MAG, for gas-shielded arc welding in TIG and for manual arc welding with a covered electrode, MMA, with direct current (DC) and the option of using the PULSE function.
Machines of the "Standard" series are aimed at home and semi-industrial use. The PATON PSI 270 Standard holds a 55% duty cycle at its full rated current of 270A with no loss of output or weld quality. At 180A the welder reaches a 100% duty cycle. The solid build and simple operation make the machine easy to work with, and the straightforward settings give good bead quality. The fully electronic control used in this series avoids the weak points typical of multi-function systems. The power source comes preset to sensible values, so even a beginner can start work straight away. For more advanced jobs the machine carries extra functions. A mark of the semi-automatic welders of the PATON™ Standard series is a high quality wire feeder with extra sealing, plus the KZ-2 integrated connector of the EURO type, which has become a standard worldwide and lets you pick any MIG/MAG torch you prefer.
GASLESS WELDING FUNCTION, WELDING WITH SELF-SHIELDED WIRE
All PATON MIG/MAG welders are ready for welding with self-shielded wire. Unlike the usual MIG/MAG process, this one runs without shielding gas, but it does need special welding wire. Such wire builds its own shield, which helps to protect the welding arc.
BRAZE WELDING, INDUCTANCE ADJUSTMENT
Paton MIG/MAG WELDERS of the Standard and PRO series can braze weld thanks to inductance adjustment in three steps. Inductance control lets you tune the arc characteristic to the thickness of the part being welded. This function is needed to change the rate of current flow when the arc voltage changes. The thinner the part welded with MIG/MAG, the higher the inductance should be (soft arc, less penetration), and the other way round for thick parts (hard arc, more penetration).
PULSE FUNCTION IN EVERY PROCESS
PULSE in TIG, full control of the heat put into the material, a strong option for welding stainless and acid-resistant steel,
PULSE in MMA, easier transfer of material from the electrode into the weld pool, better quality of the welded joint,
PULSE in MIG/MAG, easier detachment of the metal droplet from the tip of the electrode wire, with adjustable pulsed current settings. Pulsed MIG welding is useful on stainless and acid-resistant steels and on aluminium alloys. Pulsed welding also gives better results in CuSi3 braze welding
A NEW LEVEL FOR THE STANDARD SERIES
Unlike the other machines in the Standard series, the PATON PSI 270 400V holds a 55% duty cycle at its rated current of 270A. The wire feeder built into the welder also takes a large 15 kilogram wire spool, unlike the other STN series machines, which take spools up to 5 kilograms.
MAIN ADVANTAGES OF PATON™ MACHINES:
- European production
- Electronic thermal protection system that guards every heat generating part against overheating
- Reliability from IGBT technology
- Works on long extension leads and with a generator
- Welding with pulsed current in every welding process
- Improved stability of arc ignition
-
Switching between 2T and 4T modes, gas purge from the feeder function
- The machines have protection against voltage surges and a work stabilisation circuit, which keeps them running correctly over a voltage range from 160V to 260V
- Half the electrical energy demand compared with traditional power sources
- Good fusion and correct bead shape in any welding position
3 year manufacturer warranty for consumers and for companies
Build quality backed by a 3 year DOOR-to-DOOR manufacturer warranty. Models of the STD series carry a set of design solutions that raise their resistance to failure. Among them are the sealed, trouble-free wire feeder, the integrated connector of the KZ-2 EURO type and the built-in voltage stabilisation module.

Compared with inverter welders from other makers, this product, developed by the designers of the Welding Equipment Department of the E.O. Paton Electric Welding Institute, has the following advantages:
- Broad adjustment of welding parameters:
, MMA process, 1 (basic) + 10 (extra)
, TIG process, 1 (basic) + 4 (extra)
, MIG/MAG process, 2 (basic) + 4 (extra) - Welding with pulsed current, which is programmable as well, in every welding mode.
- Protection system against voltage surges.
- Besides the protection against voltage surges, a work stabilisation system covers larger long-term voltage differences in a single-phase mains from 160 V to 260 V. Keep in mind that at the minimum voltage of 160 V you can weld with an electrode no larger than ø3 mm in diameter, or run semi-automatic welding with wire no thicker than ø 0.8 mm.
- Suited to a standard power network. Thanks to its high efficiency the power source needs half the electrical energy compared with traditional power sources.
- Adaptive fan speed, which rises at the start of welding, climbs further when the welder is hot and drops when it is cool, which saves fan wear and cuts the amount of dust inside the welder.
- Comfortable work thanks to the long loading time at rated current, which allows welding almost without a break using ø5 mm electrodes (for the PSI 250 Standard), for example ANO-/21/36 at a current of 200 A and a temperature of 25 °C.
- Higher reliability of the welder in production with heavy dust and high humidity. The microelectronics were moved into a separate chamber protected by a solid enclosure.
- Longer life thanks to the electronics being impregnated with two coats of high quality varnish, which keeps the product reliable over its whole service life.
- The welder has an electronic thermal protection system that guards every heat generating part of the welding unit against overheating.
- Improved stability of arc ignition.
- Stepless adjustment of welding parameters.
- Efficiency from the latest advanced IGBT technology.
