Description

Product description

The Laser Guard welding helmet is an auto-darkening helmet from Böhler Welding for handheld laser and hybrid welding as well as conventional arc welding. Filter and shell carry laser protection to EN 207 for wavelengths of 1000 to 1100 nm (filter D LB7 IR LB8, shell D LB6 IR LB8), and the welding filter has shades 5 to 8 and 9 to 13 and a V1 rating to ISO 16321-2. The viewing area is 98 x 53 mm. It is the newest model of the Guardian family.

Who it is for

  • Handheld laser and hybrid welding with lasers of 1000 to 1100 nm wavelength.
  • Workstations where the same welder uses laser and arc: the manual also lists MIG/MAG, TIG on inverter power sources, stick welding, AC/DC pulse welding and work under argon and helium shielding.
  • Grinding between welds: a button on the outside of the shell switches grind mode without taking the helmet off.
  • Plants with a laser risk assessment: the manual requires the laser safety officer to be involved in choosing eye protection.

What makes the Laser Guard welding helmet different

  • Laser protection to EN 207 for 1000 to 1100 nm: filter D LB7 IR LB8, shell D LB6 IR LB8. Limit values and resistance tests are based on an exposure of up to 5 seconds.
  • Welding filter with light shade 4, shade 5 to 8 (CUT) and 9 to 13 (WELD), V1 rating to ISO 16321-2.
  • True Colour technology with reduced blue light transmission: a natural, high-contrast view of arc and workpiece.
  • 98 x 53 mm viewing area.
  • Delay from 0.1 to 0.9 s, each button press adds 0.1 s; sensitivity set by button.
  • The filter is permanently connected to the shell to keep the laser protection of the whole helmet.
  • Guardian family parts: headgear, sweatbands and front cover lens are the same as on the Guardian 50, 62 and 62F.
  • CR2450 battery and automatic shut-off after 15 minutes without use.

In the box

  • Laser Guard welding helmet, assembled, with ADF connected to the shell
  • Front cover lens and inner lens
  • Guardian headgear with sweatbands
  • Instruction manual

Consumables and spare parts

The ADF is not sold separately because it must not be replaced. All other parts are in the category Welding helmet parts. Spawlab is an authorised Böhler Welding distributor and service partner in Poland.

Standards and certificates

The helmet meets ISO 16321-2:2021, EN 207:2017 (protection against laser radiation) and EN 166 (EN166B:2001) and complies with PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425. Markings: filter 16321 VA W4/5-8/9-13 V1 and 1000-1100 D LB7 IR LB8 VA CE, shell 16321 VA W15 D HM 1-M and 1000-1100 D LB6 IR LB8 VA F CE, cover lens VA 1 F CE.

Frequently asked questions

Can I look into the laser beam with the Laser Guard?

No. Laser filters protect the eyes against an accidental direct hit by the beam, not for looking into it. Even with the right protection, never look directly into the beam and watch out for reflections from optical parts and surfaces.

Which lasers is it suitable for?

Lasers with a wavelength of 1000 to 1100 nm, for an exposure of up to 5 seconds (filter D LB7 IR LB8, shell D LB6 IR LB8). Before work, compare the markings on the helmet with your laser data and carry out a risk assessment with the laser safety officer.

Can the filter be replaced?

No. The laser filter is permanently connected to the shell and they must not be separated. You only replace the lenses: front Böhler Welding front cover lens Guardian 50, 62, 62F, Laser Guard (10 pcs) and inner Böhler Welding inner lens Laser Guard, Laser Guard Air (5 pcs). A helmet damaged by a laser beam must be taken out of use immediately.

How close to the arc can I work?

The manual recommends a distance of 400 to 450 mm between arc and helmet for every welding process, so as not to damage the filter or cause delamination of the LCD.

Is there a version with air supply?

Yes, the Laser Guard Air (Böhler Welding Laser Guard Air laser and hybrid welding helmet for PAPR powered air systems). The extra cost pays for the air connection: it works with Guardian Air (TH3 P R SL), Evolution Air (TH3 P R SL or TH3 A1B1E1 P R SL) and Supplied Air (class 4A to EN 14594:2018), so you breathe filtered or compressed air while welding. The blower unit and hose are chosen separately.
