Who it is for
- Welders who change current or process during a shift or move between welding, cutting and grinding: AUTO, Shade Lock and GRIND reduce manual filter changes.
- Tack welding and short welds: Tack mode keeps the filter semi-dark between spots, while 2-Step and smooth delay soften the change from dark to light.
- MIG/MAG, TIG, stick, plasma cutting and grinding in one helmet, with a large viewing area for heavy duty work.
- Work in low light: the settings display is backlit.
What makes the Evolution V80M welding helmet different
- AUTO mode: the filter sets the shade to the arc intensity, and you correct it by 2 shades with the SHADE button; 4 arc sensors plus 2 auto sensors.
- Shade Lock: the filter stays locked at a chosen shade from 4 to 14 (in 0.5 steps) and acts as a passive filter.
- Delay functions: standard delay 0.1 to 0.85 s in 6 steps, Tack (semi-dark between spots, clear after 2 s without arc), 2-Step (opening in 2 stages with adjustable durations) and smooth delay. The manufacturer states these functions reduce eye fatigue.
- 124 x 80 mm viewing area, described by the manufacturer as the largest on the market, light state shade 2.5.
- UHD display rated V1 + TIG to ISO 16321-2 and amber True Colour technology with reduced blue light transmission.
- GRIND button on the side of the shell for grinding without taking the helmet off.
- Two CR2450 batteries for 2500 hours, low battery indicator, standby after 30 minutes of inactivity.
- Evolution Vision headgear with 4 balancing straps and 3 adjustment straps, size adjustment by knob and height and angle adjustment; neck padding and front sweatband.

Frequently asked questions
How does the V80M differ from the V80?
Compared with the less expensive Evolution V80 (Böhler Welding Evolution V80 auto-darkening welding helmet), you pay extra for AUTO mode with a correction of 2 shades, Shade Lock, Tack, 2-Step and smooth delay, plus 2 auto sensors. Viewing area, light state 2.5, the V1 + TIG rating and the batteries are the same on both models.
How do I switch AUTO mode on and off?
The MODE button cycles through WELD, CUT, AUTO and Shade Lock. In AUTO mode the SHADE button changes the correction by up to 2 shades. To return to a manual shade, select WELD or CUT.
What is Tack mode for?
For tack welding: between spots the filter stays semi-dark (lighter than the set shade), so your eyes do not get the full change from dark to light. If you stop welding, the filter clears after 2 seconds.
How do I change the batteries?
Lay the helmet face down, lift the headgear, push the tab on the underside of the filter and lift the filter out. Slide the retainer with the two CR2450 batteries (Böhler Welding ADF battery CR2450 Guardian, Evolution Vision, Evolution V80, Laser Guard) out of the top of the filter. Do not pull on the cable between the filter and the GRIND button.
Is there a version with air supply?
Yes, the Evolution V80M Air Kit (Böhler Welding Evolution V80M Air Kit, auto-shade welding helmet with Evolution Air PAPR) or the V80M Air helmet prepared for air on its own (Böhler Welding Evolution V80M Air auto-shade welding helmet for the Evolution Air PAPR system). The V80M is not suitable for laser welding or oxy-acetylene welding.
