MT 540 W U/D is a liquid-cooled Böhler Welding MIG/MAG torch with a 3 m cable assembly and Euro connector, with Up/Down buttons on the handle. It takes 0.8 to 1.6 mm wire and is rated 550 A with Ar/CO2 mixed gas and 600 A with CO2 at 100% duty cycle. It is the same model as the 4 m version (81.05.042) with a shorter cable assembly.
What it is for
Choose this version when you weld at high current close to the machine or wire feeder and want to change settings from the handle. The rating is the same as on the 4 m version.
The torch needs a cooling unit with coolant. The 3 m version takes a 3 m liner. The M8 tip holder and the gas nozzle are specific to MT 540 W; the 30 mm M8 contact tips are shared with MT 440 W.

What are the U/D buttons for?
These are Up/Down buttons on the handle. You use them to change the welding settings from the torch without leaving the joint.
3 m or 4 m?
The data are the same. The 3 m version leaves less cable at the workstation, the 4 m version (81.05.042) gives more reach and is the one listed in the machine accessories of the Böhler price list.
What is the difference between ECu and CuCrZr tips?
ECu is electrolytic copper, CuCrZr is a copper alloy with chromium and zirconium that is harder and copes better with high temperature. For welding at high current CuCrZr is the more common choice. For 1.6 mm steel wire the M8 tip is available only in CuCrZr.
