Selco Genesis 4000 PME is an inverter multiprocess power source with the RapiDeep and QuickPulse processes. It welds MIG/MAG with pulse and double pulse, TIG DC with a Lift start and MMA, in a range from 3 to 400 A. At 360 A it runs at a 100% duty cycle, weighs about 36.2 kg and has a housing in class IP23S.
What this machine is for
This is a power source for production where the pass time and the repeatability of the weld count. It handles MIG/MAG in constant voltage mode, with synergy, pulse and double pulse, TIG DC with a Lift start and MMA with Hot Start, Arc Force and Anti-Stick adjustment. The range from 3 to 400 A goes very low, so one station will handle both thin sheet and a thick structural joint.
The duty cycle at 40°C and a 400 V supply is 60% at 400 A and 100% at 360 A. At 360 A you run a weld without breaks to cool the power source, which matters on long passes on a structure and in automated work. The open circuit voltage is 73 V.
Pulse and double pulse put the heat input in order. The current jumps between a base and a peak value, at the peak a droplet of metal detaches, at the base the pool cools. Thanks to that thin sheet ripples less, stainless steel discolours less, and on aluminium it is easier to keep control of the pool. Double pulse adds a slower modulation and lays the face in regular ripples.
Two processes developed by Selco stand apart. RapiDeep raises the MIG/MAG welding speed by up to 50% against conventional methods and cuts the heat affected zone by up to 40%, thanks to a modulated arc characteristic. QuickPulse raises the welding speed by up to 50% against classic pulse and gives up to 40% deeper penetration at the same time. The first comes in useful on thinner parts sensitive to heat, the second on thicker joints where full penetration is needed.
In MMA mode three adjustments work that decide how the electrode behaves. Hot Start boosts the current at the start, so the electrode strikes without sticking. Arc Force adds current at the moment a droplet shorts the arc, so the arc does not go out when it is held short. Anti-Stick cuts the current when the electrode does stick, so it does not glow red and ruin the coating. The Lift start in TIG mode is a matter of touching the material with the electrode and lifting it, without a high frequency circuit, which comes in useful where electronics sensitive to interference work nearby.
An Ethernet port and Weld@Net software add supervision of the station. From a computer you look at the parameters, hand out programs to the machines and collect data from the work, which matters in production covered by welding documentation. Being prepared for work with a robot means the same power source serves a manual and an automated station, and the change comes down to adding an interface and a feeder in the robot version.

What to watch out for
The power source runs on 3 x 400 V or 3 x 230 V at 50/60 Hz, with a slow blow 25 A fuse at 400 V and 45 A at 230 V. You check the voltage version on the rating plate, because the choice of circuit depends on it. The housing has class IP23S, that is protection against dust and water falling at an angle and approval for places with a raised risk of shock. Power factor correction lowers the current drawn from the mains at the same welding power, which matters where several stations hang on one distribution board.
This is the power source alone, so for wire welding you need an external WF series feeder along with an interconnection cable, and the control panel is part of the feeder. Access to the RapiDeep and QuickPulse processes depends on the panel version, so you confirm the configuration before you buy. The record gives liquid cooling, the cooling unit was a separate module, the description points to Selco WU 3000. Work in a network needs Weld@Net software, and work with a robot a suitable interface, so you settle both things separately.
A weight of about 36.2 kg at dimensions of about 690 x 290 x 510 mm lets you carry the power source alone without a trolley, but the set with a feeder, cooling unit and trolley weighs much more. The model is out of production, so access to software updates and parts can be limited. When working with pulse the contact tips and wire guides wear faster, so it is worth counting the consumables in the cost of the station, above all with aluminium.
