The Böhler Welding Evolution V80M Air is an auto-darkening welding helmet with auto-shade, prepared for the Evolution Air PAPR system. Its ADF has a UHD display with a 124 x 80 mm viewing area, light state 2.5, ranges 4-8 and 9-14 in 0.5 steps, and sets the shade to the arc by itself with a 2-shade correction. You buy the helmet only, without a blower unit: you need Evolution Air or the ready Evolution V80M Air Kit.

Who it is for
- For welders who change processes and currents during the shift and do not want to keep resetting the filter: auto-shade sets the shade to the arc by itself, with a 2-shade correction.
- For welding with frequent tacking: TACK mode keeps the filter semi-dark between tacks and switches it to the light state after 2 s without an arc.
- For different processes with one helmet: MIG/MAG, TIG, MMA, plasma cutting and grinding; shade lock holds the chosen shade when you do not want the automatic mode.

Which version to choose
The Böhler Welding Evolution V80M auto-darkening helmet with auto-shade has the same auto-shade filter and 124 x 80 mm viewing area but no face seal or hose connection: the extra cost of the Air version buys air readiness. The Böhler Welding Evolution V80M Air Kit, auto-shade welding helmet with Evolution Air PAPR is this helmet with Evolution Air in a bag, with a quick-charge battery (3 h, charger with USB-C port) and spares: 3 front cover lenses, 2 inner lenses and 20 pre-filters.
What makes the Evolution V80M Air different
- Auto-shade: the filter sets the shade according to the arc intensity, and you correct it by 2 shades up or down.

Standards and certificates
The ADF is marked to ISO 16321 with class V1, the shell 16321 VA W15 E HM 1-M CE, the cover lenses EN 166 1 B, in line with Regulation (EU) 2016/425. With Evolution Air the helmet forms a respiratory protection system to EN 12941 class TH3 P R SL, and TH3 A1B1E1 P R SL with gas filters.

Frequently asked questions
How does it differ from the Evolution V80 Air?
The V80M Air has the auto-shade filter, 2 extra sensors, shade lock, tack mode, 2-step and fade delay. Viewing area 124 x 80 mm, shade ranges and headgear are the same as on the Böhler Welding Evolution V80 Air welding helmet for the Evolution Air PAPR system.
How does TACK mode work?
Between tacks the filter stays in a semi-dark state, lighter than the set shade. If you do not strike the arc again, it switches to the light state after 2 s.
Does it work with Guardian Air?
EN 12941 certification covers the combination with Evolution Air (TH3 P R SL). Guardian Air and Supplied Air do not have the V80M Air on their lists of certified helmets, so choose Evolution Air for this helmet.
Can I use the helmet without the air supply?
No. The Evolution Air manual warns that with the unit switched off carbon dioxide builds up quickly under the helmet, oxygen drops and little or no respiratory protection remains.
Is it suitable for laser welding?
No. The Evolution V80 manual excludes laser welding and oxy-acetylene welding. For laser welding choose the Böhler Welding Laser Guard Air laser and hybrid welding helmet for PAPR powered air systems.
