The P R SL particle filter for Guardian Air is the main filter of this Böhler Welding powered air-purifying respirator. It stops dust and fume from welding and grinding, and with the Guardian Air unit the system meets the highest protection class TH3 to EN 12941 (99.8 % particle-free air). The unit has one main filter, so a pack of 4 covers four changes.

Who it is for
For welders and grinders who work with Guardian Air and the Guardian 50M Air, 50FM Air, 62 Air, 62F Air or Big Vision Air helmets. Guardian Air works with the P R SL filter only, so it does not protect against organic vapours and gases; for those use Evolution Air with a gas filter. Do not use the system in tanks, pipes or channels, or where the oxygen content is below 19.5 %.
Key features
- The letter P in the P R SL marking stands for particles in the form of solid and liquid aerosols.
- With Guardian Air: class TH3 P R SL to EN 12941:1998+A1:2003+A2:2008, nominal protection factor 500.
- Stops most particles: dust, liquid aerosols, bacteria, viruses and enzymes.
- The unit delivers 180 to 220 l/min in 6 steps and compensates for filter clogging on its own.
Fitting and replacing the particle filter for Guardian Air
Open the filter cover by pulling it outward from the right side of the unit; the manual forbids using tools for this. Pull out the old filter, clean dust from the unit without letting it into the air inlet, and push the new filter in until it sits well on the body. Then fit the pre-filter and spark arrestor and close the cover until it snaps into place.
The manual limits a main filter to 2 weeks or 90 hours of use, whichever is the greater, and the warranty requires a change at least every 2 weeks. Replace a damaged or clogged filter sooner: when the low-flow alarm (below 170 l/min) persists after changing the pre-filter. Never clean or reuse filters.

No. Evolution Air uses two round screw-in filters: Böhler Welding P R SL particle filter Evolution Air (4 pcs).
Can I open the cover with a screwdriver?
No. The manual forbids tools for opening the filter cover; pull it open by hand from the right side of the unit.
