Frequently asked questions

How does the Guardian 50 differ from the Guardian 62?

The Guardian 50 has a 50 x 100 mm filter with one dark range of shade 9 to 13 set by a knob. For the extra cost of the Guardian 62 (Böhler Welding Guardian 62 auto-darkening welding helmet) you get a larger 62 x 98 mm viewing area, a second range of shade 5 to 9, an external mode switch and a filter approved for TIG above 5 A. The Comfort headgear and the front cover lens are the same on both models.

Which inner lens do I need?

The Guardian 50 takes the Böhler Welding inner lens Guardian 50, 50M Air (5 pcs). The front cover lens is shared with the Guardian 62 and 62F, so one stock of front lenses covers several models.

Is the Guardian 50 suitable for grinding?

Yes. The knob on the outside of the shell has a grind position in which the filter does not darken. For frequent grinding a helmet with flip-up filter and grinding visor, such as the Guardian 62F (Böhler Welding Guardian 62F auto-darkening flip-up welding helmet), is more practical.

How do I switch the helmet off and which battery does it use?

There is no on/off switch: the filter shuts off by itself after 15 minutes without use. It runs on a CR2450 battery (Böhler Welding ADF battery CR2450 Guardian, Evolution Vision, Evolution V80, Laser Guard), which you insert as shown in the manual.

Can I connect an air supply to the Guardian 50?

No, this version is not prepared for air. For work with powered air purifying respirators there is the Guardian 50M Air Kit (Böhler Welding Guardian 50M Air Kit, welding helmet with Guardian Air PAPR): Guardian 50M Air helmet and Guardian Air system in a bag. The Guardian 50 is not suitable for laser welding.
