Who it is for

For welders who weld and grind at the same workstation and want to breathe filtered air through the whole shift. The ADF covers MIG/MAG, TIG with inverters from 5 A, MMA and AC/DC pulse welding. After welding you lift the filter and grind the seam through the visor, without taking the helmet off and without disconnecting the air supply.

Which blower unit it works with

The helmet is on the lists of certified helmets in the Evolution Air, Guardian Air and Supplied Air manuals, so you can change the system without changing the helmet. Units and kits are listed in the Powered air systems category.

Which version to choose

The extra cost of the 62F Air buys the flip-up filter with a grinding visor underneath: the Böhler Welding Guardian 62 Air welding helmet for PAPR powered air systems has the same filter fixed in place. The Böhler Welding Guardian 62F auto-darkening flip-up welding helmet has the same flip-up filter and visor but no face seal or air duct connector, so it works without an air supply. The Böhler Welding Guardian 62F Air Kit, flip-up welding helmet with Evolution Air PAPR is this helmet with the Evolution Air unit in a Böhler bag, a complete set ready for work.

What makes the Guardian 62F Air different

  • Flip-up ADF: raised, it uncovers the clear grinding visor; lowered, it protects your eyes during welding.
  • Guardian 62 ADF: light state shade 4, ranges 5-9 and 9-13, 4 arc sensors, optical class 1/1/1/2 to EN 379.
  • 62 x 98 mm viewing area and True Blue Color technology.
  • Grind mode in the ADF itself as well, set with a switch on the outside of the shell.
  • Two main air streams to the breathing zone and an adjustable outlet to your forehead.
  • Headgear with top strap, length and angle adjustment.
  • Replaceable CR2450 battery in the ADF.

Standards and certificates

The shell is certified to EN 175 B, the ADF is marked CE 4/5-9/9-13 to EN 379 with class 1/1/1/2, the cover lenses EN 166 1 B. With Evolution Air the system reaches class TH3 P R SL to EN 12941, with Guardian Air class TH3, with Supplied Air class 4A to EN 14594:2018. Eye protection against arc radiation applies only with the filter lowered.

Frequently asked questions

Can I weld with the filter raised?

No. The Guardian helmet manual states that eye protection against arc radiation applies only while the flip-up filter is lowered and covers the field of view. The visor underneath is for grinding.

Can the Guardian 62F Air be used without a blower unit?

No. With the air supply off, carbon dioxide builds up and oxygen drops quickly under a sealed helmet, as the Guardian Air and Evolution Air manuals warn. Connect a unit or choose the Guardian 62F Air Kit.

How do I change the grinding visor?

Push the old visor out from the back and load the new one from the front. Guardian 62F grinding visors come in packs of 2 and also fit the Guardian 62F without air.

Which unit should I choose?

For long shifts and work with A1B1E1 gas filters: Evolution Air (up to 14 h, 1120 g). When weight on the belt matters: Guardian Air (870 g, up to 8 h, P R SL filter). At a workstation with compressed air: Supplied Air, 475 g without belt.

Can I wear it with a beard?

A beard or long hair under the face seal lowers the protection factor of the system because the seal no longer fits tightly around the face and chin. The PAPR unit manuals warn about this.
